Title: Oils for grey motor and crash box
Post by: Oggz on April 04, 2011, 09:17:15 AM
Hi guys, I tried to look in the Technical Info part for what oils to use but all the links seem a bit broken under specifications so I thought I would just ask here.

I am planning to use a 20/50(prob penrite) oil for the engine and I have read here of people using all sorts of gearbox oils for the crash box but something has me confused, both Penrite and Castrol recommend the same oil for the motor and the gearbox. Now I am no stranger to this, my 77 Gemini used to use the same 30/40 engine oil in the box.

So any recommendations?

Also, the grey motor i have hasn't been run for approx 3 years, the oil is black as the ace of spades so I was planing on putting some fresh oil and a does of the Nulon engine oil flush to give the system bit of a clean out, then dropping that out and putting some good stuff in. I know this stuff works but I am still dubious about using it in a grey. Can they handle this stuff? I know it is basically kerosene, breaks down the oil and washes the inside the motor. I just dont know enough about the grey motor to make an informed decision about using it.

Cheers

Jemahl
