Title: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: fe350chev on December 09, 2010, 11:01:29 PM Hi
i have a barn find FE Im gunna restore which i just purchased. It has a funny looking rural type tap near the pump housing. It has what is hard to tell if its an original heater demister, cos looks rudimentary, but I think it is original with a little flap u can open from passenger side. Whats the go with this. Cheers Deano. Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: FCRB26 on December 10, 2010, 05:33:43 AM Any names on it nasco, warmaride, smiths, JAP,

here is the funny tap Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: EffCee on December 10, 2010, 05:57:13 PM Well, going by the colour of it, it's brass!
Not a standard tap, often they were switched on in winter and turned off in summer and were cheaper than buying the "factory" cable operated tap. Keith Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: FCRB26 on December 10, 2010, 06:19:39 PM looks like a 50,s hardware job.
i use a ball valve very rarely drive in winter. Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: Maco on December 10, 2010, 08:06:33 PM I would say the valve is a 90' shut off valve, nothing special.
Cheers John Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: fe350chev on December 10, 2010, 11:00:41 PM yeah was confirmed tonight as nothing and cable operated ones explained. And the heater has "Smith's" brand on it. so that isn't original I don't think but still a very old example.
Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: FCRB26 on December 11, 2010, 07:22:27 AM Its a period accessory and id rather that than no heater.

Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: fe350chev on December 11, 2010, 07:34:56 PM owned man me that is (owned), but i really didnt think it was original....seriously lol. Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: graham_fuller on December 12, 2010, 07:17:36 AM As FCHoon said a standard aftermarket period accessory.
Cheers, Graham Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: fe350chev on December 12, 2010, 08:34:51 AM Because the engine runs (doesn't drive cos Clutch system needs bleed and rear brakes disconected) do you think i should test it. I think when the paddock dries out I should give the motor a good run blow the cobwebs out and give the lifters a run too wouldn't hurt. It was started afters a year sitting there with no noises or smoke or anything.
I will have a bit of time in the leadup to Xmas to start stripping her. Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: FCRB26 on December 13, 2010, 08:24:58 AM watch runnign your heater the problem with heaters is greys are only meant to 6lb radiator cap and reds and jap motors run a lot more pressure and they leak.
if the grey ran in the shed you are only ripping it out anyway? Title: Re: Funny heater tap on hose above fuel pump Post by: fe350chev on December 13, 2010, 09:40:52 PM I couldn't wait any long Hoon, I just started stripping the bastards tonight! :o ;D
