Title: D.I.Y.Tilly (?) Kit
Post by: surferboy on October 25, 2010, 11:38:50 PM
Is it possible to make a chrome trim piece that follows the blue line ?

I want to paint the flash a different colour but want to seperate it with a chrome trim

Hey there Surferboy ;D - how about those fin trims that are often seen on the sedans???? You might be able to modify it so it runs along or up to the window trim.

Cheers Hotlips ;) ;)

Hi Surferboy (and Cathy) anything you use would have to be re-worked / re-rolled  to a certain degree.
You could possibly use the standard trim that runs along the back guard and door with the flared section that runs vertical on the door and invert them on the line you have drawn on your wagon (and paint them blue to match ;D ;D) ????
Might be worth a try - and still an FC trim. Fixings might be a problem but not insurmountable

You might be able to modify FB top trim.

Did no-one read this comment in the "butchering chrome" thread or did it not compute cos the word "Tilly" was spelt incorrectly?  ???

An alternative to shaping the original diecast is to use brass.  Customisers quite often use brass to create trim pieces.  They get brass stock and shape and bend it to the style they want then get it chromed.  There are numerous advantages including brass is easily chromed unlike 50 year old die cast and you can drill and tap it for fasteners.  Eg you can make as many Tilli kits or whatever as you want.

I read it  :-*

It would be a simpler task to go straight through from the top of the taillight, under the rear door handle to the exisiting stainless piece.

Keith, I've seen that ute in the flesh, and I can tell you that it's a hell of a lot better than it looks in those pics...   8) 8) 8)
