Title: Unusual Engine Problems
Post by: MalFE on August 21, 2010, 08:43:38 PM
I have been doing repairs to a FC wagon including brakes and engine tuning.
The engine was running very rough so I decided to do dwell and timing checks before doing any repairs.
While using the timing light, the timing mark was showing erratically. I removed the distributor and when turning the shaft it was catching.
I dismantled the the dizzy and noticed one of the condenser scews was fouling the governor weights.
Evidently when the aftermarket condensor was fitted the spring washers were not fitted. With the washers fitted the scews cleared ok.

While reinstalling the dizzy I noticed the oil pump locating bolt was nearly screwed out of the block (also leaking oil from there).
I tried to refit the bolt but the pump had dropped, so the only course of action was to remove the sump
I was able to purchase a gasket set locally and the job is now done

Mal.

Hey Mal
If you couldn't sort out the problem, then no one could.
Nice work!

Alex

When I saw the topic and who posted it, my first thought was "jeez, must be a highly unusual problem if Mal's asking the question" !

Good tip for others.

cheers
