This is a very strange difference - there is no description in the parts book regarding when the floors were changed. The pics in the service bulletins all show a ute with full floor wood insert like your second photo. But I have seen utes and vans with the shorter floor. I can't really offer much assistance - maybe the full length floor was the original equipment and it was superseded after the utes displayed some body weaknesses. Possibly late in the FE series.
Maybe some input from ute owners would be helpful - especially FC ute owners - Do you have a full length floor?

Our 58 FC ute "Lily" has a full length floor.

yep my fc has a full length floor also
Might the short one be a wagon floor? - there looks to be a join at the front corner on both sides.
Did vans use rear part of the wagon floor? Its the only explanation I can think of.

Sure it has not been replaced looks very clean get a mirror and see if it has been welded in there?????

My FC also has the full length floor ......FC427.......
I have an FE Ute, body number 405 and it has the full length floor. I also have an 59 FC ute and it has a full length floor.

Had a good look under the floor today and side rails for the timber floor dont continue through,they stop at the metal floor,it looks to me that it was built that way.
I'm sure all will be revealed one day,just a bit of a pain to get under there to clean and paint.

How earlly of an FE is it does anyone else on here have a earlly model to compare??
my FE ute has full floor..probably a '58. It's looking like that 'short floor kit' is pretty rare!

Just to shed a bit more light on the floor issue,the short floor was welded in voer the top of the original floor,including the timber insert.
Well it looks normal now,and its still pleasing as under all that mud i took out(about 30kg of the stuff)it all looks pretty good heres some shots i took this after noon.
