Title: Re: What is this??? Post by: pedro on April 16, 2010, 02:17:26 PM G'day Jason, I was waiting to see if someone with more knowledge on these came foreward but it seems not so I'll put in what I know, while I haven't used one of these on a car I have had similar setups on old bikes, when you screw it in (clockwise) it makes the mixture leaner, and when you screw it out it makes it richer, the instructions it originally came with would have had a standard setting e.g. 1 turn or 1&1/2 turns out for example and you tuned it from there, if your plugs are black it's too rich and if there's no colour it is too lean, you're looking for a nice light brown colour, I wouldn't bother with it for a standard setup but if you are running extractors or a bigger cam it would be usefull because it is infinately adjustable.

Thankyou very much for that and I will go and play with it till it runs a nice brown plug. Cheers for that Jason Title: Re: What is this??? Post by: JB on April 17, 2010, 08:34:59 AM BUt before you do, Pedro, was that for leaded or unleaded fuel???
Title: Re: What is this??? Post by: FC_fer_me on April 17, 2010, 09:18:39 PM G/day Jason, I remember using these back in the 70's. As Pedro said you remove the standard main jet and fit the adjustable one then turn it right in and back it off 1 to 2 turns. In those days we used to adjust it until the car would run smoothly out on the highway without hunting and produce an almost white coating on the inside of the exhaust pipe. ( leaded fuel). However with unleaded fuel this won't happen so you'll have to adjust it by trial and error until you get the leanest mixture without hunting.Hope this helps, Cheers, Jack

Didn't think about that part, the light brown colour would be for leaded fuel, as far as whether it's worth fitting one, it's more for people who like to tinker it's not going to make that much difference on a standard carby, if you want performance fit a two barrel or some twin carbs.
