Title: Axle Stands
Post by: Paul In Ireland on April 11, 2010, 12:18:07 AM
So, I had a search but couldn't find the exact answer....

I am putting the ute up on 4 axle stands as I am going to strip and paint the wheels. Where do you normally put the front pair when using these type of stands? I reckon the y frame at about just behind the the wheel but not sure of the strength of the frame to hold the weight.

Thanks

It holds the front end onto the body,It's plenty strong enough.I had mine up on stands while it had no front end on it and the front ones where on the outer part of the crossmember where the Y frames meet the body. This is where I'd put them.Otherwise you could put them under the actual front crossmember (that the wishbones are attached to)which would have the same loading as if it were on it's wheels.Jamie.

Thanks Jamie - having had a look under I went with first option figuring what you said that if its strong enough to hold the front end, it's strong enough to take stands.
