Title: boot springs Post by: Gary C on April 08, 2010, 08:43:45 PM Could someone please steer me in the right direction regarding the re-tensioning and or the adjustment-replacement of my boot springs.
There are no obvious breaks in the springs or attachments, as far as I can tell. I did a search boot springs in the forum and noticed there is a aftermarket adjusting type arrangement but the photos are no longer available. Any help would be apreciated, the broom handle is starting to wear thin on not only my patience but also the new paint. 1) the post - this gets worn away by the plate on the hinge and eventually breaks or bends such that the spring will not stay in its correct position to hold tension. Remedy - fit the pin kit supplied by NSW club. 2) the hinge - the rivets and holes wear to such an extent that even when the spring and post are in good order, the hinge will reverse on itself and actually pull the bootlid closed rather than hold it open. Remedy - remove the hinge and either replace it or repair the pins/holes. FE boot springs do commonly break because of their smaller size - fitting the NSW pin kit AND the boot hinges from an FC allows the use of the wider FC boot springs & should eliminate this problem. The centre locating pin in on the right hand side has only 1 half remaining. So I will be looking for the replacement jobbies. Thanks again for the help, always appreciated. Gary C |
