Title: Brake and fuel lines Post by: Mc Bean on February 14, 2010, 09:21:10 PM Hi everybody,
After removing the front clip of the FC for floor rust repairs (Fun), we removed the brake & fuel lines and noted that they are a bit rusted and will need some work before refitting. My question to the people is - what is the best way of restoring them / or does someone reproduce them I,m sure thier is a few of you who have encounted this ploblem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I supplied the old ones and they bent the new ones to match.

I have seen on Ebay that Power Brakes do the rubber ends for the brakes, wasn't sure if they did the lot. Might be worth giving them a call. Thanks Andy, Title: Re: Brake and fuel lines Post by: zulu on February 14, 2010, 10:35:47 PM G'day Andy, I've just finished cleaning, painting & re fitting mine on the Ambulance.
I was fortunate enough to have 4 of the long ones & one of the short ones NOS in the shed The remaining old ones were easy enough to clean up providing you have a wire wheel, a commpressor & air nozzle I tip some metho or petrol down one end with a primus lamp primer ( a small plastic bottle with a metal tube spout) and blow it through with the air nozzle two or three times, if it still looks dirty inside, use the wire out of an old bonnet pull cable & give it a clean out with that, then the metho again. When it's clear, clean off all the crud with the wire wheel, being careful not to catch it on the wheel (I ended up with a corkscrew on one of the small lines :'( ) Then inspect the line for any crushed or damaged bits & if ok paint with Wattle Epoxy Alluminium, if any are bent out of shape, try refitting them before painting, they bend easily Failing that, do what Stapla did & get the brake place to make them up for you, but be sure to tell them the threads are imperial, not metric Good luck with it Title: Re: Brake and fuel lines Post by: Mc Bean on February 15, 2010, 10:47:18 PM Hi Gary,
The Wattle Epoxy Aluminium paint you mentioned, does it come in a pressure pack can. Andy Title: Re: Brake and fuel lines Post by: zulu on February 16, 2010, 12:40:11 AM Yep, it's available in a spray can
Wattyl Industrial Coatings Spray Mate EP Aluminium Epoxy Enamel Industrial Top Coat I get it from a local Steel Supplier, it's handy for odds & ends that you may have forgotten to get zinc coated & provided they are cleaned up first it gives good results Be careful not to get brake fluid on the lines when bleeding the brakes though as this will remove it Cheers, Gary |
