Title: exhaust manifold leak
Post by: stapla on February 03, 2010, 01:22:14 PM
Hi all,

Having a couple issues with the exhaust manifold.

1st problem - manifold preheat valve is leaking out the end where the counter weight is.

2nd problem - inlet to exhaust bolt holes are stripped out

3rd problem - I can't fit the manifold with all 3 inlet port guides fitted.  I can fit the front 2 but the 3rd inlet ring doesn't line up 100%.  I assume the exhaust and inlet are not 100% square with each other.

I assume I need to find a new exhaust manifold ?

I assume your right in that a new one would fix all your problems when fitting the new one  leave the bolts loose that hold the exhaust manifold to intake manifold till you have tightened it to the head might help with the alignment ....FC427....

I managed to get another manifold.  The flapper valve is seized open and not leaking.

I'm not sure if the valve is all that important.  I guess a heap of greys run extractors and other headers with no valve.

Cheers
Peter.

The flapper only aids in the warm up, to help heat the intake manifold ........FC427......
