Title: cable accelerator modification
Post by: red_devil on May 03, 2009, 09:16:11 PM
Hi guys can anyone suggest the best method of using a cable instead of the original rod and linkage accelerator set up. The car is running a 179 with 186S carbie and inlet manifold.I believe I have to change the accelerator pedal as well?
Thanks

Rares used to sell a kit for this, don't know if they still do or not.

Otherwise, the pedal and brackets from a later model (ie early Commodore - blue/black motor) is probably your best bet. Others who've done this conversion more recently might have a better suggestion...

cheers

Ken from ROBO"S spares  Blacktown also does a kit using the early Commodore components but works better if you use a later Commodore one and modify it pretty easy job I have done over 10 of these in all types of cars and all work well ......FC427......

Apparently a Bits-are-shiti L300 cable is an easy conversion to the old pedal, I haven't tried it but intend to when I get a spare 10mins  ::)

That includes the 8 mins it takes me to call around the wreckers and find the cable  :P

Hey Stinky,
Did you ever get that spare 10 minutes?
I am about to fit a twin carby set up to my FC & thought I would convert to cable at the same time.  Would be interested to know if the L300 pedal & cable was an easy changeover or whether I would be better off going with a late model commodore unit.
Cheers,
Pete

Still haven't found that 10 mins  ::), to clarify it's the L300 cable with the original FC Pedal

The commodore pedal mount is only spot welded to the floor, it's an easy job to drill out the welds and re weld it into another vehicle, the cable locater mounts on the firewall and is also just spot welded, if you didn't want to do any welding on the firewall it could be riveted in place, have a look at the pics of my wagon rebuild and you'll see what i mean.
