To all Holden Car Club members, Peter Brock, arguably the greatest racer of all-time, will be remembered forever at his Mecca, Bathurst, when a specially comissioned statue is unveiled at the National Motorsport Museum this Thursday. This is an ideal chance for all Holden fans to come to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and be one of the very first to see the prized Peter Brock bronze memorial statue by sculptor Julie Squires. The $100,000 statue, commissioned by the Bathurst Regional Council, has been a labour of love for Julie and her 22 helpers over the past five months. The finished statue will see the life size motor racing icon and nine times Bathurst winner standing astride his victorious 1984 Holden Commodore, waving the winner's trophy. The four metre high statue, weighing in at 532 kilos of bronze and 100 kilos of stainless steel, was modelled after meticulous sculptor Squires. It was cast off an actual 1980's Holden Dealer Team racesuit and an original VK Commodore bodyshell, plus a genuine period aero kit ------ the whole exercise taking over 1000 man hours.
