Title: Special
Post by: mcl1959 on October 02, 2008, 09:43:04 PM
Has anyone read this book?

Very interesting. The same author who wrote "Heart of the Lion" - It delves into the history of where the FX prototype came from. Everyone knows the story that it was supposed to be a prototype Chev, but this book looks at the history of GM from about the mid 30's up to the development of the FX and the role that the Opel subsidiary played in this development.
As I said - a very interesting book!!

A four wheel drive EH prem.... cool. Would like to be there bwhen it was time to motor back over the sandhills. ya would need everybody inthat picture to push it.
Yup the dog needs a bit of a lesson. Soooo.. i suppose we will allow the chick on the back to grind the sand on her feet into the paint... NOT!!!!. .I have seen that picture on something else before. cant remember what.... havent read the book.

don't worry about the dog or the girls sitting all over it >:( it's the salt water dripping off the surfboards all over the roof that's gunna kill the car ;)

Yep - I only just bought it a week or so ago.  The EH pic is a GMH file photo used in original advertising circa 1963

Yep   just finished it while on holidays, did you see the photo of the FC with the caption " the best car of it's type in the world at that time" ?. Good read it certainly gives a lot more information about the early years of GMH than most things you read.

Our club received a PDF of the foreword and an offer for an advance copy about 6 weeks back for us to review in Sideplate if we wished. Unfortunately I was too busy to take them up on the offer personally, and no-one else put their hand up at the meeting, so that was the end of that.

Having read the foreword though, I'm pretty keen to get the rest of the book ;)

cheers
