Title: New Tyres
Post by: Rod on July 11, 2008, 11:52:28 AM
I must be in the mood at the moment. Seem to be asking alot of questions. Anyway I am trying to locate some tyres for my FC ute. Curently running 185/75 x 13 but can't get any. I have done a search of this site and found some interesting reading. CraigA put down some time ago an online tyre calculator (which I have been using) and some other calculations. On using the calculator a very close match is a 175/80 x 13 which seem just as rear to get.

I have been suggested 185/70 and 185/80. With these I am concerned with the height (80 series) an the 3% change in speedo reading.

The originals as we all know are 6.40 x 13 crossplys. Has anyone out there know how to convert this or at very least know the diameter of this tyre so I can source a suitable replacement.

On a side note the tyre place I am dealing with (been absolutely fantastic in doing reseach and providing assistance) have indicated that 13 inch tyres are going to be slowly phased out. Unsure where this will leave us all.

Many thanks again.

Rod

Hi Rod, can't help with the calculations but, I was speaking to a couple of tyre places in town here & had the same response from 1 in stating that the tyres I was chasing were very hard to come by 205-60-13. The 2nd tyre shop said how many do you want & gave me prices on about 5 different brands. He also said he could get me 225-60-13's.

My point being don't give up as someone in tyre land will have the drive to find what you want.

Cheers, Dean.

If you google  tyre sizes there are charts with every height tyre from 10'' to 20'' with aspect ratios and overall heights and widths might help to find a replacement ......FC427.......

Hi Rod

I have recently purchased some Kumho 185 80 R13 steel radials from Stuckey's Tyres in Victoria. I know it's not your preferred option but 13" tyres are getting harder to come by. If all else fails give them a call. Salesman's name is Michael Sullivan. 03 9386 5331 :D

Thanks for all your responses.

In my research it has been extremely difficult to find the diameter of the 6.40 x 13 hence the question. The tyre calculator was excellent but the most suitable replacement was the 175/80 (as difficult as the 185/75 to get). However, through my research I think 185/80 are a closer match to the 6.40 x 13 anyway. Iwill see how I go with these but if anyone finds the diameter of the 6.40 x 13 it would be great.

Cheers Again

Rod

Rod you could by 6.40x13 not very long ago & they are used/sold as agriculture tyres, also used on trailors & caravans.
Try for some Kuhmo Touring 795, 185/75x13

You may not have this problem over there but with many old and news cars and vans in hand, we had a good tyre guy just around the corner. We got stuck on a tyre for a bentley and he just couldn't source one for us. Tried another guy and he had one that arvo. Seems some of these places are tied to certain brands and won't stock others. Our now "new" tyre guy is an independent and can get whatever we want - and we have asked for a couple of wild ones and he has come up trumps.
