Has anyone seen springs like this before on an FE sedan?

Ken, these are an aftermarket item referred to as uplift springs or more later terminology helper springs, they are bolted on to assist rear end sag when towing, or even to help if you have a back seat or boot full.
There are a few different sorts available, have a look in Accessory of the Week section.

Thanks. I've never seen anything like this before. The car has a tow bar so I guess the old girl has done a bit of towing in her time  :)
