Title: jammed boot / lock ?
Post by: surferboy on January 28, 2008, 11:16:23 PM
I've never been able to open the boot since i bought the FE (the key doesnt turn in the lock and i dont want to break it trying to force it)
I pulled out the back seat to see if i could open it from the inside but being mechanicaly challenged i couldnt see an easy answer (short of undoing every nut i could see and seeing if it all just falls apart....but then i have to figure out how to put it back together )

Is there a dead simple way of getting my shut boot open ?

Hi Graham
If you have taken out the back seat and you can easily access the back of the lock you should be able to open the boot easily. If you are in no great rush we will show you how it is don at the next meeting.

Cheers Jim

The key for my boot lock needs to be pulled out ever-so slightly before it will turn the lock, I have had other cars with similar locks, worth a try.
Otherwise there should be an obvious slot at the back of the mechanism that a medium flat screw driver will fit into, twist and open!

If the locks pin is in place you won't be able to access the slot with a screwdriver. I would try to reach into the boot and try to pull the retaining plate from behind the lock. If it comes free (usually tight fit) the lock can be extracted and a screwdriver used as Stinky described.

Alex
