Title: FE pic in local paper today
Post by: Sheriff on December 31, 2007, 05:08:09 PM
Here is a pic of a FE Sedan with Tilli? stripe and FE wagon in Ruthven Street, Toowoomba as it appeared in todays Toowoomba Chronicle. Caption says circa 1965 but from the cars I think it was more likely pre 1960.  Stripe on FE is a bit unusual I think.   I was a young bloke in that era and can't recall seeing one around like it.    Mike.

Nice pic Mike, it looks a bit like a someone has put an FC Florida kit on it, interesting, that FE Wagon must have been a dark colour.
Cheers & happy New Year to all, Gary

Hey Mike.
Les Hewitt posted that pic back in 2002 from a postcard that he was given.
Unfortunately the image was in his starbucket account and is no longer viewable in the original thread. Perhaps we can get him to repost it!!!
As per the unusual stripe kit, Flamed FE came up with a theory back then, here it is reproduced:
(quote)
looks like someone's customised a Detroit trim kit

a) rear top strip stays where it is
b) top arch become rotated 90 degrees and becomes bottom arch
c) top strip stays put and become bottom strip
d) bottom strip move up inline with rear top strip to become top strip
e) bottom arch flipped 180 degrees and become the front curve
f) rear bottom strip extends top strip
*use rear quarter ridge as bottom paint line

Customising a custom product - give that man a medal!!
(end quote)
Thanks for the pic, many reading this would not have seen it.
Was the article attached good reading?
Regards
Alex

Gday Alex.   That was all there was in the paper.  It is a feature they have of pics from the past, the only comment being that under the photo.  Cheers, Mike.

Geezzz you've got a good memory Alex!!

I haven't been able to find the original image, nor the actual postcard to re-scan (we moved at work and a lot of my stuff is packed at home still), but here is a small version I found for now.... I'll try and re-scan a better version later on....

Good stuff, Hewart.   I'll have to take a pic of how the street is today for a comparison.   The Commonwealth bank bldg is still there, though the bank vacated not long ago and it is empty.    Mike.
