Title: Smithaire
Post by: Munster on July 23, 2007, 06:26:16 PM
Hi all, new member here. I am generally an EH person but just wondered if anyone has info on a "Smithaire" car cooler. This advert is in a 1961 magazine. Thanks.(http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/th.61d510ae34.jpg) ($2)

Can't say I have come across 1 of those yet.
It's not an a/c, it is a cooler and works like an evaporator.
Interesting, but I would think everything inside would become damp in such a confined location as a car.

I fitted one of those coolers in about 1960 to an immaculate 1951 Bentley owned by the local doctor.
It seemed to work ok for that era and he was happy with it.

Not the same unit, but the same idea and the same vintage.
Now on ebay.
