Post by: fccool59 on May 12, 2007, 07:32:18 AM
just wondering what is best to use on neoprene seals like timing cover to sump and rear main, i am using permetex on the cork and paper, i also have a few others like "form a gasket" witch is a siliconeyish sealer, would that work?

l'm no mechanic, but l've always found permatex to be great on most gaskets,& if silicone sealant is absolutely necessary keep it to a absolute minimum,l've heard many horror stories where someone's gone overboard with it & ended up with lots of black crap floating around in the internals.lts probably like everything, different strokes- some mechanics use a small bead of the stuff on everything & swear by it,& l know a few pig-headed old-skool mates in their 50's who wont touch the stuff, one says"they've been building cars for 100 years & survived for 80 years without using that shit!"

I use superglue to stick the rear main in and stop it spinning.

no joke.

Hello fccool59.
I use  Locktight no# 3 non hardening gasket goo. It's the same stuff that is used in areoplanes. I'v used it for over twenty years and it has never let me down or leaked.
