Is it the same as one of those kits available on ebay?
I've been eyeing off them for a while.
Hard to install?

Terry.

Yeah Terry, Skyhawk kit, fairly easy, though the instructions assume you have some mechanical ability and/or common sense. Seller is very helpful with questiosn though. Only problems I've come across so far are because of the frame I'm using, had to weld the tank mounts and front engine mount on due to the size of the frame tubing.

Should be a ball running to work eevry day :o

Hey Shane,

thanks for dropping in with project pics.  ;)

I love it, that's a stylin' bike.

ive been thinking of building one of these babies,

did you make the frame, or is it a matter of finding the best frame, and then sticking all the custom bits on?

i found a local importer of all the lowrider gear.
locolowriders.com

did you source anything from the States?

ive been eyeing off the 68cc kit.. this is all for my step son of course... lol

Cheers

Ed

Bought the bike as is, but fitted with a 4 stroke mounted above the rear wheel. Planned on mounting it down in the frame, but the sucker was way too wide, so went with the oil burner instead.

I grabbed that front light from a mob called 'lowlifer'

I went with the 48cc 'cos there are no licence or rego requirements. ;)

Search for 'motor' in the cycling section of ebay Alex, the 4 stroke I got rid of was only 31cc and manufactured by Blackstar, these are listed there as well as the Skyhawk kits.

Shane,
how did the bike go?

it looks like the cranks are wider than standard cranks?  i suspect this is to clear the motor.

Also, looking at the cabling, you have your right hand to the front brake the rear is a coaster brake and the left is a clutch? like a motorcycle?

I just ordered Atomic Zombies book on custom bicycles for a few ideas on making my own frame.

one of these motorised bikes zipped past me the other day.. was well impressed at how quiet they are.

Cheers

Ed

Bike's flying, have ridden it to work couple of days now ?(about 20k's round trip, each leg takes about 20 minutes! :D )

They are wider, that's to clear the pullstart.

That's right, though I have since destroyed the rear hub and have had a freewheeling one installed with a handbrake with one lever operating both front and rear brake.

I'd be interested in seeing that, where'd you get it?

Mine's very quiet, well, as quiet as a 2 stroke revving it's ring out can be!  :o though, without the muffler it sounds like a trail bike!

Shane,

just noticed you have disc brakes.. cool!

do you get much chain slap from the drive chain?

atomic Zoombies book is from Amazon,  it's a reasonably good read and useful for some ideas.

i'm looking for a good source of thin wall tube now.  wil try my local metal shop first.

have sketched a design, which is similar to yours except the frame will drop much lower, opening up that central space.. the cranks will be positioned forward too.. kind of hybrid chopper/speedster style.

im hoping to integrate the tank into the frame as well.

all fun... its harder than it looks!!

Cheers

Ed

Yeah, a little... until I had the rear wheel spaced out a little the chain rubbed the tyre something terrible, damaging the sidewall, not enought to cause it to blow out, but it sure made a greasy mess :(

I need to knock another link or two out of it, but I'm having too much fun riding it!... it's sure not for the shy ;)

Hey Ed, I didn't know if my frame was custom or not, but have since found one in stock form,
