Title: FC Vinyl
Post by: Gertie on March 08, 2007, 08:27:37 PM
I have sent vynyl samples from under the back seat to USA & they believe they have an exact match. They are sending samples for approval.

I will probably order the vynyl anyway but would like to know if anybody has details of where you can get embossing done for the back rest of FC seats & door trim.

Do you mean vinyl welding? Where the vinyl is moulded to the trim, usually with a stitch pattern?
If so you need to find a trimmer with an RF Vinyl Welder and they are few and far between (in SA at least).
Dash Original in Holden Hill SA (http://www.dashoriginal.com.au/) have a setup to do all of the repro door trims, but I am sure there would be someone in your state similar.

Thanks Glenn. The difficult bit is the pattern on the black upper section of the FC backrests. I haven't had any luck yet in NSW or Vic. A special stamp has to be made to replicate the pattern & is apparently quite expensive to build.

No, it was introduced during 1959.  I went looking earlier to see if I had a good picture of it for the benefit of this thread, but couldn't find one.

Perhaps someone with a '59 FC that has embossed seat-tops might like to oblige?

cheers

Wouldn't you know, I took an old backrest to the tip last weekend, and remember thinking as I loaded it on the trailer, "never noticed that embossing before" ::)

I cant believe in this day & age, people still take old holden parts to the dump :'(
Surely it could have been advertised on this forum as a give-away!!!!!

One mans trash is another mans treasure.

I manufactured the patterns for the seat backs & the first pressing failed due to the vinyl from USA being a little different to the local stuff. I ordered some more vinyl & dropped it off to Polyweld yesterday. Will post the results after the job is completed. I am donating the patterns to Polyweld so he can continue to produce seat backs if it works.

Polyweld did not want to keep the patterns, so I still have them. They are available for use by club members but a deposit will be required to ensure safe return. Will take some pics today to show the results.
