Title: HR front ends
Post by: colt on January 03, 2007, 06:53:54 AM
Does anyone know for sure if HD & HR lower wishbones are different lengths? I am having trouble getting rid of my positive camber & have been told it may be HD lower wishbones installed in an HR front end. Can anyone confirm this? All ball joint of course.

Hi Colin in the parts book they list different numbers for each HD=lh7424977,rh7424978 and HR=lh7432101,rh7432100 but i can't tell you what the difference is. Hope it helps

Hi Colin, all of the HR ones I have stumbled accross have had "HR" stamped on the bottom of the arm, maybe this is to make sure the right ones were used, it could go some way to explainign why there is a difference in your car?

Just to put an end to this story, HR lower wishbones are 1/2 an inch longer than HD ball joint lower wishbones. From ball joint center to pivot pin centre. This will fix my camber problem. Many thanks to Ken McLean for supplying the wishbones.

That is confusing?
The parts book lists the crossmember, upper arm and knuckle all as having the same part number between HD and HR.
So why isn't camber adjustment a problem on a HD

That's right, Ken. There has to be more to it.

Maybe the inner bottom mount is 1/2 in closer to the centre of the main crossmember. Just a thought

Just out of curiosity I took a tape measure to some lower wishbones and can confirm that Hr is about 14" and the other 13 1/2" ???

fc4me, as stated, the HD and HR crossmember both have the same part number (7427965) so are identical.

No problems, HD king pin front end has upper control arms mounted like the FE to EH front end, whereas HD and HR ball joint front ends have the upper control arms mounted with bolts and nuts with a shim arrangement.  Parts are not interchangeable between one and the other

I have now changed the wishbones & I instantly went from positive to negative camber. The toe out is also way out now. At least I will be able to set it up properly now.
