Post by: ASUS on December 22, 2006, 09:19:23 AM
Hi,

Seems like a real dumb question I have tried to remove the internal door handle and window winders on the FC.  I can find the circlip, and cant get them off.

Any tricks, I've tried screw driver, Ive tried using a wragg but just can get them off Doesnt help the trim is quite padded.

any help to get these handles of would be appreciated.  Cant get my window up.

Use the proper removal tool - you can get one from Supercheap or Repco or Bursons. Most places have them and they are quite cheap.
I know what you mean when you have trouble because of the deep padding, but you just have to compress it as best you can as you push the clip with the tool

Thanks Gents,

I'm sure this will save me a lot of frustration.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Here's what the tool looks like:
And for $10, I wouldn't advocate bothering trying to make your own.  I inherited a home-made job with my first FC, and it was useless.  The proper ones are made of decent steel that's thin, but doesn't flare at the ends.

Once you get the tines in between the washer and the handle, give it a slight twist  and you'll be able to see the circlip.  More than once I've discovered one that had been fitted back-to-front this way.

Another tip: cover the right-angled end with electrical tape: it's awfully easy to scratch paint with...

cheers
