i have a set of ute venetians that need restoring . they are in good nic,but have very little paint left & are lightly coated with rust. i'm not sure if they're heavy enough for sand blasting. will caustic do them any harm.does anyone know an easy way or do i just keep rubbing?
thanks trev

Ive heard bead blasting is the go(something not too fierce, such as wallnut shell?) and then get them powdercoated.

Trev, I had a set that I got off a wreck in SA sandblasted and powdercoated. They had surface rust as well. They came up very good. I asked the powdercoater if he could get them done as I did not want them damaged. I think it cost me $15.00 about 7 years ago

If you are wary of having them blasted in any way, the old time restorers use a Molasses Bath to dip fragile items in and it strips the corrosion without damaging the material, you just immerse it leave it for a few days or more depending on how bad it is then lift it out and hose it off.

Jock has the right idea, then have them powder-coated. Many years ago had a set done for a friends EH wagon
