Cannot Open Bonnet

Can someone please help with an alternate way to open the bonnet of an FE? The small rectangular retaining mechanism/lug which is normally screwed tight at the end of the inner wire has come off. So I have no way of opening the bonnet by just pulling the hood button. I can't see a way of getting access through the grille to the lock to force it to one side in an attempt to open it. Is there a trick to this? Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers, Ken

Happened to me a long long time ago and I had to use a screwdriver to push from underneath like you were using the wire to pull the bonnet open. placing it through the grill.
You may need to fabricate a tool or bend a tool to get the right angle.
Good luck

Holden already made provision for this issue. In between the bonnet catch plate and the panel that holds it is a gap. All you need is a 300mm long 2 or 3mm diameter screwdriver. This screwdriver is placed between the bottom lip of the bonnet and through the hole under the latch plate the screwdriver ends up going through the catch spring and hits the locking plate push slightly and the bonnet will pop. I've done it and it works a charm.

Graham

Thanks to both for the help. JB I was initially thinking along those lines too. But Graham that's the trick I was hoping to hear about. I found the gap you referred to and will get hold of a long thin screwdriver and give it a go next weekend.
