Title: Brake line weeping (causing me to weep)
Post by: Rabbitoh on February 03, 2009, 09:39:42 AM
Having trouble wth persistent weeping from my brake master cylinder at the outlet pipe port. Have replaced the copper washer (admittedly with a non-genuine one from a hardware store, as the brake place I tried, had none to suit). Have tightened the bejesus out of the securing nut (using vice grips so as not to round the flats). The weep continues :(.
Any thoughts?

G'day Rabbitoh,
Remove the copper washer and if it is not damaged heat it up with a oxy or blowtorch then let it cool and refit. This should fix your problem ;)

ACE, forgot to ask; Do I wait for it to cool completely, or just till it's warm to the touch?

If it is made of copper it is best to quench in water so it will anneal [soften] the copper .....FC427.....

Yes it is FC427.
So I get it nice and toasty and then straight into cold water?
(that's got me thinking, what about heating it and screwing the pipe fitting onto the hot copper washer, while it's malleable?
