Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Notchy rear wheel bearings

Hi,
Thanks for the responses.
Yep, diff is filled with oil and I thought it was the diff at first but got under the car the check. The feel and noise is definitely coming from the wheel bearing end of the axles. Both sides the same.

Technical Board / General Technical / Notchy rear wheel bearings
|
on: December 01, 2017, 04:54:53 PM

Hi all,
I recently fitted new rear wheel bearings to my FC. They were Rare Spares kits.
When I fitted the wheels and gave them a spin, both wheels felt lumpy or notchy. The notchy feel is regular and say 6 to 10 times per wheel revolution and was audible as well in a quiet garage.
I'm sure it is the wheel bearings doing it and both sides the same. The car has done zero miles so far but has anyone else encountered this? Will they settle down?
The old ones ran smooth and I only replaced them because I had to fit something to NOS axles.
Cheers

Technical Board / Restoration Help / FC Aerial and where to put the hole
|
on: December 01, 2017, 04:38:07 PM
|
Hi all, I'm after a good aerial that suits my FC and that looks period. Probably a repo as I'd say the originals are either worn out or cost a lot. I would add a blue tip if it didn't come with one.
Can anyone recommend where to get one?
Also, does anyone have the template for drilling the aerial mounting hole near the windscreen? I've searched through old posts in the forum but they are no longer active and the links or pictures are gone.
Thanks in advance.

For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Bolts and screws wanted
|
on: March 10, 2017, 04:15:16 PM

Hi, I'm after the screw bolts and washers that hold the guards onto the K-frame and also the grill etc. It's the self tappers that you see along the edge of the guard when you open the hood.
I'm after 10 or 20 or so. More are welcome if you want to do a job lot.
I'm also after a collection of the screws that hold the scuff plates down.
I'm in Melbourne so pick up preferred but happy to pay for postage on top of the cost
I'm also happy to come to you and remove them myself if you have a wreck.
Thanks
Frank

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Wheel Studs
|

Hi I did some shopping around for wheel studs a while ago and found the shoulder on the NICE studs was too long. I ended up with RARES wheel studs which were spot on. They are the slightly longer ones which are better if you aren't using original wheels. They suit original wheels as well.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Fitting EH Brakes to the FC
|
on: October 31, 2013, 06:36:44 PM
|
Thanks to everyone who posted.
With nothing to lose I had a go at modifying the EH backing plates and while I could get them to fit they wouldn't work with FC axles (as predicted by HSV).
It's back to standard brakes and I'll fit that booster.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Fitting EH Brakes to the FC

Thanks for all the replies everyone.
Jim - does your suggestion mean using all the FC brake bits (wheel cylinder etc) and replace the EH shoes and drums with the EH ones? Does that work with the shoes - the FC shoes have the anchor pin and links at the bottom whereas the EH has just an anchor pin at the top. Wheel cylinders are differently placed as well.
I'm still keen to keep the FC banjo for originality and I know that the NOS rear axles I have will fit.
Also keeping the FC banjo makes for easy conversion back to original if I want to someday.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Fitting EH Brakes to the FC
|
on: September 08, 2013, 10:38:02 AM
|
I'm looking to fit EH brakes to my FC to improve braking and still look period. Also I already have a set of the EH ones. Apart from changing the brake lines it seems to a be an easy bolt on switch over for the front brakes. However the rear brakes are not so simple. The FC banjo and brake backing plate has a square bolt pattern and the EH has the top bolt holes wider apart and slightly lower. The photo's below show the difference. I want to keep the FC banjo so that I have the original look and do not have to play around with the leaf spring mounts. I'm assuming the FC rear axles will still fit with EH brakes. Can I simply weld up the top bolt holes in the EH plates and drill new ones to get the square pattern? Some modification is still needed to the brake backing plate to make it fit. I'd guess that someone has done this before so I'd welcome any comments or help you can offer.

Hi Ken,
I'm more curious than keen but what do you think it would take to get the car a RWC, assuming it doesn't come with one.
Also, is it registered, what mileage has it done, do you know much of its history etc.
Feel free to email or call on 9700 7954 / 0419 588 224.
Regards
Frank
