looking good Deano, I've asked my panel shop customers that question and the response was depending on the amount of old paint and it's condition will determine the way to go. By rubbing back the paint you need to make sure you feather out all the rub throughs and repairs fullyso you have a smooth finish from which you can undercoat and then top coatand you should'nt have any problems with sink back. If you have a lot of old paint or really poor paint then go back to bare metal and then metal prep and ecth prime, undercoat and top coat the main thing with bare metal is you have no imperfections that can come back and bite you later on. If you are happy to rub your doors back just give them a couple of coats of high fill primer and block them back smooth before you top coat them. Regards Jim

Neil, something has been bugging me about your taxi, so I had a close look at your posts in the projects and I think I found what it was. You said the car was a 58 FC but you have a 59 third style, the pictures you have posted show that the seats have the embossing in the seats and on the rh rear guard there is the fin extention. These two items would make a strong case for your car being a late 59 Special instead of a 58 and lastly I'm fairly sure that the combo of Ascot & Wangarra grey where late colour combos. Regards JIm

Neil, the dark grey on top of the dash you are talking about is a matt finish that all fe/fc's have, it also continues on the two trim plates that screw onto the front 'A' pillar. This is not the same as the Wangarra Grey on the body. The dash should have the matt dark grey on top where the ash tray is and the light Ascot Grey on the face plate where the speedo, glovebox & speaker grill go and then flows around into that small depression at the front of the door. It's a lot to take in but keep it up and you will get there in the end. Regards Jim

Mate, good luck tring to find mixing formula the these, I had to give my guy a sample i.e. glove box lid, so they could colour match to that. You should be able to tell which grey is which by the id plate. Get the numbers from that ,body & insert and then look under the technical help site at the start of the forum, you will find the paint codes listed, if its the same as my old one it will be as follows. PAINT:253-7773 which is ASCOT GREY INSERT:253-5300 which is WANGARRA GREY Hope this helps, Jim

Deano, I had a car the same paint as yours, the body colour goes on the dash and the indent on the front door, the flash colour goes all over thethe inner surface of the doors and the door openings as well as the top half of the small centre section between the doors. Regards Jim

Just finished doing a screen for a curtomer who is in the asrf, he is building a 52 Chev ute with HQ running gear and a 350 chev, he had an engineer out about six weeks ago to check over the ute so it would fall under the old rules. He also said the asrf have been in constant talks with the new powers to be (headed by a woman) and they have been very productive talks. The new rules are set to come into effect from Dec. 19th, but they are still unsure in what direction they will head. Ispoke with him about the concerns voiced on the forum and he said that at htis stage they have no real idea which way the new body (Maritime & Roads) will head so it is all still up in the air. AS for enginneers there is still a long way to go as most of the old registered ones have not resighned so it is still a lot of work to do. Regards JIm
