Title: Steering Column to firewall rubber
Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on January 31, 2006, 11:41:36 AM
Before I start chopping things up I wanted to see if there is an easy way to install the steering column to firewall plate rubber.
The column is in and complete.
I figure I either take the column mounting u-bolt off and strip the top of the column or (prefered) cut the firewall rubber, install and glue it up.

cut rubber with a razor then loosen the bolts so you can wriggle column a bit, then get some hot soapy water and soak rubber for a minute, move column to one side of hole and start poking rubber in bigger gap and work it in as you move column to opposite side giving you the most room at all times, should be done in a couple of minutes.when finished you can just  turn rubber so slit is on bottom so no one can see it when hood is up as column will hide it.
cheers Nick

Thanks Nicko, looks like I'm cutting it then.
