Title: supercharger belt setup
Post by: Ed on May 22, 2008, 08:30:17 AM
Hi guys,

Just thinking and need some advice.

when running a supercharger, are the sc belts placed on an additional pulley or can you run a serpentine belt which operates, water pump, alternator and the supercharger on one belt?

i'd love to stick a vortech style supercharger onto my ride but have limited space for extra pulleys.  A serpentine would work well as it wouldnt require much extra space, only the width of the belt versus a normal v belt.

Anybody offer any ideas, help advice?

Cheers

Ed

Hi Ed With my 6 cylinder set up I run a 5 rib belt I had a harmonic balancer with 5 ribs and a water pump pulley made  and used a VN Commodore alternator pulley and a F##d AU air conditioner compressor IT serpentine it's way around all these as well as the blower and two idler gears and has never thrown a belt or gave any problems I also had very limited room and had no other option but to drive the lot with one belt .......FC427.......

you can do it either way, serpantine gives you more radiator space and less parts but if the belt breaks you are stuck were if a seperate belt brakes you just drive home with no boost, serpantine also means you need to replace all the pulleys.

thanks for the info ratbox.
Leon,
You're right if the belt breaks you are in trouble, I guess it would mean having a spare handy.
a fan belt is no different really.
is your sc running off a separate belt?
