Hi Hewart
One way of checking to see if there is water in the oil , is to put a couple of drops of oil from the dipstick on a flat ,clean, surface , smooth it out with your finger.   After rubbing a few times , if there is any water there , it will appear as little bubbles on top of the oil.
A mechanic checked out my dads XM falcon like this 35 yrs ago and found that the head had cracked .

Hope this may be of help to you

527  General / General Board / ALL READERS OF THE "FORUM" on: August 07, 2002, 02:07:10 PM
Hi Guys
It's probably not my place to do this because I haven't been a member of the forum for very long , but I would like to start this thread.

I would like us all to show our "Appreciation" to

1/   Richard ,(RET) for the running of this board in a most professional manner.

2/   Ken ,  for his "wealth" of knowledge and help to ALL of us.

3/   Airchief ,  for his help and massive contribution here

4/   Craig ,  for his help , "paint" program  and  "cusomizing" picks.

5/   To anyone I have missed who contribute regularly.

I , for one , haven't missed checking this site out EVERY NIGHT since I joined  (MRS thinks I'm obsessed with it)

Let's see how many replies of "Thanks" for these guys
we can get , cos without them , what would we have , "Nothing"
REMEMBER ,  Keep the board  "Light Hearted" as we are all here for fun and the love of  FE's  and  FC's ........

Thanks to ALL

Hi ya    Steve
Have you tried a removalist going to Adelaide , they might be looking for a "back-load"  I sent some things to the NSW central coast that way.

530  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 202 4 186 on: July 31, 2002, 09:52:40 AM
Michael
Would it be easier just to bore out the 186 to 192, put in a warm cam . In the racing scene , we found a 192 is much more reliable ,pull heaps of revs and has heaps of HP.   202's had a habit of "going BANG" My 192 was putting out 245 HP when last dyno'd (but it has triples and 40/80 cam, red-lined at 8500 rpm).
As for the legal side of it , it's a 186 (hehehe).

531  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Towing capacilty on: July 27, 2002, 12:53:04 PM
Hi Charlie & All
Better check with RTA or what ever in your state, but I think in NSW , the load can only be 3/4 of the towing car weight   eg. towing car 1470 kg = load 1102 kg .  Thats why I can't tow my FC on a trailer behind an XF falcon wagon. Huh?? :-/

533  General / General Board / Re: FE Ute Exterior mirror on: July 21, 2002, 09:29:00 AM
I have just been to an auction today on a farm. There  was an FC Ute there . Drivers side had a NASCO screw on mirror , no evidence of any other being there .  The Ute is in pretty bad shape , but the new owner of the property purchased it at the sale.
I have told him about this site , so we'll have one more person looking for parts here in the future

534  Galleries / Members' FEs and FCs / FC Sports Sedan Racing Again on: July 16, 2002, 12:45:07 PM
My FC in 1980 before the sign writing (pic and description in "racing FE/FC's"). At this time it had been raced for 10 years , as you can see the car is still very straight and the only "BOG" in the car is in the "Flares", otherwise the car has never been BENT since the rebuild in 1970. Ken has told me it is a mid 1959 standard model , Melb build , No 3200. It has a modified FE grill and all chrome stripped off except bumpers and headlight surrounds . One of the local mechanics has asked me if I would like to get it "back on the track" so within the next few weeks , it will look like this again and running at "Wakefield Park" Goulburn, at a later date . I will keep you posted when the time comes.
  Thanks Ken for the Info.
Thanks to craig for the help posting this

535  General / General Board / Re: holden vs ford on: July 08, 2002, 12:21:37 PM
MMMM      Holden vs Ford      ,   got both , and had both

Started off with a'61 XK Falcon at 17  then 440 Cortina "L" , 72 & 74 XLE Cortina's (I found very under-rated cars , 250 CI 4 sp. would hang in with GTR's of the day, 120+ MPH stock) XY wagon , HQ premier wagon, 308, Statesman front (beaut car, but somebody wanted it more than me ,was never found)  '80 XD ,S-pack wagon work car (sold this to buy a house) undercoated HQ sedan , HQ panel van 600,000 miles 3 motor's and 3rd owner, BMW (E-1400 Blue Mazda Wagon) for work , 85XF wagon (sold at 350,000 k's)   still have 85 XF fairmont wagon (155,000k) (wifes) 86 XF wagon (208,000 k's)  still lot's of life left in both cars . .... Wife had a '61 Mini when I met her , then a LJ  4cyl Torana (YUK) then '79 Escort Ghia 2 ltr ,with h/duty shocks , 2" exhaust  6 1/2 Aunger hotwire mags (all her idea, she's a rev-head too).
WHAT I really LOVE is when I take my DAD for a drive (He's 83 and had his licence cancelled due to health reasons ,3 yrs ago) . but He still has his car ,so I take him out in it .    IMAGINE THIS =                               1974, XB , Futura , 302 , 500 Holley, 7" chrome 12 slots , stainless steel twin exhausts , WITH 129,400 ORIGINAL K's on the clock, always been garaged (with a soft cloth over it )  and never been "Bent" , MAN I love driving that thing . He said "One day this will be YOURS" .
BUT  "I LOVE MY FC 192"  Reason = THE LOOK , plenty of bolt-on go fast parts , and all the "head turning" when ever I have it out of the garage.Would sell the Mrs , before I sold "The FC".

So , after all this rambling on , both Holden and Fords have been good to me , so I sit on the fence. hehehe

Hey Craig
Thanks for the link to the colour schemes, now I know what my car originally looked like. It was "Dutchess Green" , on my PC it looks like a very pale blue ,  (still like the "Chrome Yellow") hehehe

MMMMM geeez
If that is worth $50,000 ,   My FC has a FE grill (if that helps ) and all the mods to the car , 192 motor hasn't even done one race meeting (maybe 5 miles around the yard ) I'm advertising mine $90,000, hehehe

538  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Fat Rims on: June 26, 2002, 01:07:10 PM
Hi'ya Smoo'er
I have 7 1/2" x 13  Torana rims on the front of my car, I bought them from "Bob Janes" years ago , as for the inner guard I have no prob's with 235/60's (HR front end)but I don't know how you would go with the outer guards cos mine are flared to take 10" slicks , also I don't know how you would go legally on the road, I think you can only widen the "track" of the car 1",
There's a pic of my car in "racing FE's & FC's" if you want to match it with the sill,(you can't tell from the guard) it might give you some idea.

539  General / General Board / Re: Practicality over History on: June 24, 2002, 01:10:22 PM
Stockers , or Modified    Roll Eyes
I used to use my FC as a "Pro-mo" for the Music Shop I had in Sydney Years ago . I would display it in front of my shop on festival days , even drove it in the "Blacktown City Festival" one year (pic in "racing FE & FC's)  I couldn't get a permit off the RTA so I used a set of "trade plates"  nearly got BUSTED doing it (haha) .
Best advertising I ever did, the old guy's would say "geez I used to drive one of these" and the young kids just couldn't get enough of it . The local camera shop told me 80% of the films taken that day had pics of the car , every one a "business card for me". Even made the channel 7 news.
Sooo  , don't matter if they're Stockers or Modified  they still turn Heads
       Yeaaa     for  FE's & FC's

Craig
In the early 70's , there was a 2-door "FC sports sedan" (the back doors were welded in , great job)racing in Sydney. I believe it was owned by a fellow called "John Bourke" I have been looking for a pic of it that I took, it must be here somewhere.
It was always immaculate and looked great, colour was Black with 10" chrome Mags , and the guards were hand beaten 4-6" to cover the wheels. I believe the car was sold and put back on the road (has anyone heard or seen it) It would be good to see it again as it was racing at the same time as mine was. If I find the pic I will send it to you.
