G'day all...
A workmate handed me this old postcard today, thought I'd share it with you.... I've not seen an FE with stipping like this before.... maybe some of you have....
The caption on the back says it's Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, Queensland....
Enjoy....

Hey Les.
Wow.
Nice score.
I have never seen that trim either. Perhaps it is a local guy that is not known nationally. Looking forward to hear if anyone knows or has seen this design.
Thanks for sharing.

Yep that's definately Ruthven St, I spent a few years in Toowoomba. Is that what they call the 'Thornton Side Flash' on that FE?

Hey Peter.
Welcome to the board.
Please tell us more of what you know about the 'Thornton' side flash. I have never heard of that one before.

looks like someone's customised a Detroit trim kit
a) rear top strip stays where it is
b) top arch become rotated 90 degrees and becomes bottom arch
c) top strip stays put and become bottom strip
d) bottom strip move up inline with rear top strip to become top strip
e) bottom arch flipped 180 degrees and become the front curve
f) rear bottom strip extends top strip
*use rear quarter ridge as bottom paint line
Customising a custom product - give that man a medal!!

Long live the custom!!

Well I was told about these trim kits that wer sold in the 50s and 60s called 'Thornton Side Flash' kits. An old guy in northern QLD told me when I spotted his FB (during a school excursion) and wandered over for a chat. He had his fitted after picking up the car in Townsville. He then fitted the 'kit' and drove the car home to a small place near Hughenden (it was where Crocodile Dundee was filmed, Mickinlay (not sure of the spelling)). Anyway that was 1985 and the FB had 3500 miles on it at that stage. After driving from Townsville he only used the car to commute around town, a small town of about 50 people!!
If only I could get hold of that car now, however it may have clocked up 7,500 miles by now, it's nearly run in!! Anyway more I don't know, however I hope that's a start anyway.

Peter - a "Thornton kit" is a generic name for a kit made by Thornton Industries for all ear,y model Holdens.
In fact the Detroit kit is a Thornton kit as it is in the Thornton catalogue that I have a copy of.
I think Flamed is right - the Detroit kit rearrangement seems to be what it is as there is nothing in the catalogue which looks like that.

Nice detective work flamed.
The pics were a big help in understanding what you were saying.
Looks like it works to me.
Thanks for the info Peter and Ken.
