At a guess I would say that the I stands for industrial but no other clue. A photo would be good. Is the stamp in the same letter size and font as a Holden engine which may indicate that it was stamped at Fishermans Bend. Otherwise it may be a new engine which was purchased by a company, then installed in something and stamped with a number. Forklifts were a common example of industrial applications for grey engines, but they also turned up in tractors and stationary engines such as saws.
