41  For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Re: anyone know this wagon? on: March 31, 2010, 01:00:31 AM
Its taken me a while to post this, but, I purchased this car when it was on ebay. The last owner had the BAD-781 number plates on the car when I looked at it (from the FJ holden movie fame) but they didn't go with the sale.

I've spent the last few months doing the odd rust repair on the car, touching up the paint and doing some structural mods to bring it up to standard for QLD mod plate regulations

I'll start a new thread about it in the Members Cars forum shortly

Craig Vanes Sheetmetal has my vote! Haven't had a bad experience with any of his sections yet

Ditto!
Safe travels to all who are attending. Can't attend as I've got other commitments in Taree this weekend, but hopefully I might see a few FE's or C's travelling along the highway!

Very interesting!
For historical/preservation sake, it'd be a damn shame for the wrong type of people to find this place and start "souveniring" bits and pieces
47  For Sale and Wanted / Auction and Trade Links / Re: Fuel Injection for Holden 6 on: February 07, 2010, 12:26:02 PM
oops... mechanical injection or EFI ...

In my opinion, EFI is the only option here (assuming that this vehicle is street driven)
Mechanical injection is really only for wide-open throttle applications

Thanks all for the replies.
The repro ones look great. I'll probably head down that path I think

Cheers!

Agreed, thank you Mods for your work!

I was starting to wonder for a moment there, " Is it just me?... was it something I said?..."

Yep, you can definately buy the protective film for those blast cabinets. I wouldn't recommend using it without the film in place.

Also regarding the mig, I personally found it much easier to weld with gas than without. If you can borrow a bottle to try it out, it'd be worth giving it a go for comparisons sake. Looks like you've bought a nice unit!
53  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Skyline Blue paint formula on: November 19, 2009, 11:36:34 PM
Keith,

Thanks heaps much for that!
I've got to go back to the paint shop tomorrow. I'll go in armed with the formula

Cheers

Nice work!
Any chance I could talk you into doing some photoshopping on my wagon?
Nothing drastic, but I'd interested to see what it would look like with a white roof and stock wheels.

My photoshop skills are non-existant!

Dave,

I am on holidays at the moment in Brisbane, I will be back home tomorrow afternoon. I have the codes for Skyline blue in acrylic. I will put them up tomorrow night

Keith

Keith that would be great thanks

If you are doing touch ups then its unlikely you'll get a match to a formula.

Take your car to your local panel shop and get the painter to match it for you. Most will have an electronic device to do this but all should be able to eye match.

The paint shops I've been too both had a go with the colour matching hardware. The problem with this method (as explained to me) is that the device only recognises the nearest colour match in there database. In which case, the match was a Triumph motorcycle blue by one shop and an early falcon blue by the other. I had the paint reps try and tint/match each of these colours by eye but both agreed that 99% of the time you need to start off with the correct formula to get a close match.

Cheers

Thanks John

That's a huge help  Grin
58  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Skyline Blue paint formula on: November 15, 2009, 12:30:35 AM
Hi all,

Wondering if someone might be able to supply me with an acrylic formula for Skyline Blue. Paint no. 256-2051

I'm doing some touch up jobs on my FC and have had the colour computer matched by two paint shops so far, but neither have come close. Haven't had much luck tinting by eye either. At the moment the paint shop is playing trial and error with my money and it's getting quite expensive!

Cheers  Smiley
59  Galleries / Members' FEs and FCs / Re: Daily Driver on: November 12, 2009, 11:25:34 PM
I like your thinking Marc! That'd be something different
But I don't know how the mechanical injection would handle the daily driver duties  Grin

In my opinion though, absolutely NOTHING can beat a grey motor dressed up with period speed gear and alloy finned goodies  Cheesy
60  General / General Board / Re: Wedding Cars on: November 12, 2009, 11:07:26 PM
I'm a Bundy resident. My FC wouldn't be up to standard but I'll ask some of the other FE/FC owners I know of in town and see if they could help

Will get back to you  Smiley
