Title: Steering Column seal at firewall
Post by: oldgrey58 on November 07, 2019, 06:00:26 PM
Hi all,
I'm about to refit my steering column and I'm looking for a new rectangular seal for where the two split plates screw into the firewall.

Does anyone know if these are available as reproduction? I've checked the Rare Spares website and couldn't find it.

Or what has anyone done to overcome this - has body sealant been successful?

Thanks in advance!

Mastic sealant is fine.
Jaycar used to sell a sealant, like Blu-Tac, for sealing up speaker boxes.  It works a treat on later Holden taillight housings, and would work for the steering column access plates too.

I guess you mean the gasket that goes between the plates and floor. I didn’t know they existed until dismantling my ute recently. I don’t know that you can get them but a bead of butyl mastic would do just as good a job.
