86  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Vaccum Advance Manifold Connection?? on: July 04, 2007, 02:39:16 AM
There are two types of vacuum. Manifold vacuum is used for brake boosters and vacuum wipers ect. You get more vacuum when you take your foot off the gas. That is why vacuum wiper work so well when you lift your foot and the same with brakes. When you take your foot off the gas you use the brakes.
Distributor vacuum is different because it increases when you put your foot down.
I'm no expert but i think it is positioned in the carby above the butterfly. As the butterfly opens the vacuum to the distributor increases.

The 6 cyl box output shaft is approx 6 3/4in long from the face of the gearbox housing. The 8 cyl is approx 8in.
Hope this helps

90  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: body chrome on: November 29, 2006, 07:00:06 AM
Its just called Purple Polish. I get mine from the local truck supplies. The best polish on mags and bullbars ect by a country mile.
Great for chrome. I haven't tried it on stainless steel but I have been told its ok and can be used with steelwool.

93  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Rocker arm bushing on: September 02, 2006, 12:40:34 AM
The bushes in my rocker arms seem to be worn as oil is escaping between bushes and shaft. The only way I can get enough oil to lube the top end is to block off the relieve hole in the centre nut that the oil line screws into.
I'm just after some help with the best way to fix this problem. Should I get new bushes made or can I buy them from someone? I would also expect the shaft to be worn as well. I wouldn't think mine would be the first grey with this problem, so I'm hoping someone has got some good advise.

94  General / General Board / Re: What Number is More Relevant ? on: June 16, 2006, 08:23:09 AM
Anyone who didn't know FC's wouldn't relate much to FC-169 ect. People would relate more to a year such as FCI-958. You could use FC-058. My two bobs worth.

There is a small pipe on the top of each carby and towards the manifold. Block of two and use the other one. Can send you a photo of a set if you want.

98  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Acid bath??? on: April 01, 2006, 08:25:08 AM
To get rid of rust you use a mixture of 10 precent hydrochloric acid and water and add about half a cup of sugar per litre of solution. You can increase the percentage of acid but then you have to keep an eye on the items in case the acid starts to etch into them. The sugar I'm told, acts as a buffer for the acid and helps prevent etching of the steel.

99  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: welding on: March 09, 2006, 07:07:09 AM
Welding engine mounts to a car chassis or crossmember should be done with either M.I.G or Stick. It should only be done by a welder who knows what they are doing. You don't want it breaking in use or being knocked back by an inspector when trying to get through rego.
Don't forget fuel. If you welding around an engine, fuel blows up.
I believe BOC are being taken over by Lindie Gas.
