Looks like I got lucky with the hole. After reading your posts, I guess the only reason the hole is in the van is because thats the route the wires take to the rear lights. Cheers Graham

Here's how I put the seatbelt mount in the B pillar of my van. Drilled a hole on the inside of the B pillar at the required height, big enough for the seat belt mounting bolt to pass through. Drilled two more holes, one a bit above the first hole and one a bit below. Cut a 3mm plate and pressed it to the shape of the pillar. I drilled a hole in the centre of the plate the same size as in the one drilled in the B pillar. Lightly tack welded a H/T nut over the hole on the side to face out and made sure the seatbelt bolt screws freely into the nut from the plate side when finished (Important use antiseize). I then drilled a small hole to the top of plate in the centre and tied my string line to it. Now the trinky bit. There is a slot in the top of the B pillar near the roof. Lower the plate through the slot with the nut facing to the outside of the car. Lower the plate down till it can be seen through the hole in the pillar. Screw in the seatbelt bolt to hold the plate in position against the pillar. Plug weld the plate into position using the two holes drilled earlier. Remove bolt and dress plug welds Ezy really. Hope it makes sense. I have a few pics if any one wants a copy. Graham

Yes it could be a gold mine, not because of car parts but because they are still mining gold in the area. A quick search or Googe and anyone who is interested in Aust history will find out about a town that had a huge influence on QLD and Australias economy at the time of the gold rush. So much so that they built a stock exchange there. Cheers Graham

Today I found a LJ Torana xu1 parked in a shed just waiting to be restored. Would someone know where would be the best place to get the numbers checked out before I make the bloke an offer. He also has a FC Panel Van that I went there to look at. (Not for sale) Cheers Graham

As Ken said, don't use a grinder if the tank has petrol in it or you can smell fumes. A bit like having a smoke in your mouth. If the tank has been flushed of petrol you could fill the tank with water to rid the tank of fumes and then grind of any bolts you could not remove by any other means. The tank looks rs to me. A good secondhand one may be better. Welding new parts into a fuel tank can be a bit tricky unless you have the correct gear and you need to leak test it after welding.

The bosch reg in the picture is the same as the one in my FC. It looks like Dr Terry has come up with the correct answer as my engine is from an EJ. Thank you to all who answered my Questions. Cheers, Spanner.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / COLOUR ENGINE BITS

Some of the engine parts on my FC are painted blue. Starter motor, coil, distributer and regulator. Could this be the original colour or has someone gone berserk with a spray pack? Should they be black ?
