I have an FC ute into which I am installing a 179HP and Trimatic,I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much clearance I need to have bettween the gearbox and transmition tunnel.I plan if possible to split the origional tunnel down the middle and flare it  or fabricate a whole new one(prefer the first option).I also need to know how much clearance I need bettween the sump and the front crossmember.Any help would be much appreciated.

I had some info from  castlemaine Rod shop that said somthing like the only time you need to modify the tunnel is if you use a turbo 400 as it is a physically large transmission.....but saying that Im using a 350 turbo and put in a bigger tunel anyway just to be safe castlemaine rodshop can supply and the fit is real good or Ive heard that a HQ tunnel will go in easy too...but I dont know anyone who has tried it.

General engineering rule is 20 mm minimum clearance at all points.
I fitted exactly the same setup and used an EK auto tunnel.  Very neat - you cant tell it from factory it fits that well.  Good thing is that it comes with its own built in strengthening which can be used to nount the trans on.

Hi Weedy-Burton,

I used an EK auto tunnel as Ken has stated and it fit's and looks real neat.
The sump clearance, I have 45mm using a HR sump and a HR front cross- member.

Hi ive used the rod hadfield tunnel in my fc sedan and it fits great. They are $75 he has them on the shelf.. Good luck..
