Title: FE FC heater switch
Post by: texmorton on August 13, 2020, 10:00:45 AM
G'day, could somebody supply me with a photo of the correct switch that would have been supplied / fitted with a NASCO warmaride heater (round type with doors on the front). Also, if anyone has an original fitment could I have some photos of engine connections (on the thermostat housing) and firewall, thanks. Al

This is the knob, can’t find a pic of the back, but it is ceramic with a coil of wire similar to the light switch dimmer control

The original tap for the Nasco heater is quite crude

Thanks Ken,

So that is original fitment for a new vehicle, I assumed the switch was mounted under the dash somewhere and not up near the instrument cluster like that. Any pics of the firewall and where the actual heater unit is mounted? thanks. Al

Yes, that is where switch is mounted. Here is pic of heater position. It is optimised vertically to allow the parcel shelf to fit below and be below the dash. Horizontally is important so that the Demister vents clear around the vent handle. All the ones I’ve done I have moved it 15mm to the right so the nut is not right on top of the ridge. Clearance of the ducts around the vent handle is tight But will work. Ends up a much neater finish in the end.

Back again,

Could somebody (Ken??) post some pics of where the warmaride heater mounts to the firewall for me; I am in the process of filling holes and getting everything ready for primer and would like to drill required holes for mounting the heater when the time comes. Pictures from inside the cabin and from the other side in the engine bay would be grouse. thanks, Al

That’s what I have shown in the diagram, the picture is from the fitting instructions.
As stated, I usually move it over a fraction so the bolt does not go through the rib. Makes it neater, but I’ve seen plenty of dealer fitted heaters exactly as per the diagram.

G'day again,

Ken, the photo you supplied of the heater switch fitted to the dash; what is the other round feature below it - Handbrake warning light? I have recently found another image of a heater switch fitted in the same position with the same round feature above it. thanks. Al

I'm guessing maybe a foglight switch, I have an FE with that set up as well

So between the vacuum wipers, heater demister & fog light, you had a fighting chance of seeing where you were going

Yes Tex, you’re spot on, the car I photographed had a handbrake light fitted
