Hi
Pity it doesn't have the optional White Vinyl leather look-alike roof. Those puppies are RARE! I had a mate once who had one. He ended up selling it, when he got an offer he couldn't refuse. Just under $450! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Ahso.

That explains it Craig.

So youv'e grafted a Torrie front on 120WHY back. You blokes will corner the market soon  Huh Rob, as the vinyl roof was a delete option for the conservative owner, it makes sense that these guy's cars wouldn't have them Roll Eyes

In Leichhardt they used to use the original wheel trims to strain spaghetti...

Cheers

The assembled front end ready to be installed. The tie rod ends and steering arms require final adjustment and are not installed.

The rack is mounted a lot closer to the crossmember and is promised to deliver better geometry and steering response than other conversions.

Eddie, are you using the CRS drop spindles? If so I'd be interested to hear which wheel/tyre/steering arm combo you go for.

Eddie,
Fast work! how did your alternator go down the bottom? all fe's/c's ive seen with em down the bottom have a piece of the subframe modified for clearance(well ones with large body alternators). That front end sure is tidy!! the section that gets 'cut out' for the v8 sump looks much nicer than other conversions ive seen...will be interesting to know how your front end turns out.

cheers!! and keep up the good work Wink Cool

Stinky,

Yes, it has CRS drop spindles.

The Rod's Rack conversion uses the short HQ style steering arms which turn down sharply at the back when mounted to suit the front rack.

The design ensures that the turn down sits against a strengthened section of the lower control arm at full steering lock.

The wheels that came with the car are 15" x 7" Hotwires with a 4.5" backset. The steering arms currently scrape the inside of the wheel without spacers installed, but it is only the turndown on the arm that scrapes.

I am working out how this may be modified, spaced out to suit.

Darcey,

The alternator is tight there as well. It may need the chassis rail modified to suit, or I could find a smaller alternator. Any tips on what's available?

The crossmember started out as a CRS modified one. All the work on it is of a high quality.

Regards

Edward

Car looks great, Edward. You only have 2 weeks & I will be there for a thorough inspection of your faciliity. I would love you to take me for a spin in the Datsun Shelby, but understand if it is just for best.

I have seen other alternators used in that situation. I will try & find out what they were off, just can't recall at the moment. Dare I say Gemini? They are smaller & not as deep, so allow the extra room needed. Don't take that for gospel though, as I am well known for making crap up just so I sound smart.

Rusty.
That isn't me, I am the one on the left with the glasses!

LMAO Rob!!!

Eddie,
You could always go for a small body alternator. Available from VPW

(   http://www.vpw.com.au/productgroup.asp?CatID=8&SubCatID=931&priorCatID=931&PrdGrpID=3332   )

Have ordered stuff online and arrived within 2 days.

The car is coming up great!! Looking forward to some more picutres/updates

cheers, and thanks for the reply Cool

Mal,

It's a real one.  Shocked

It runs a 427 FE side oiler and a four speed.

The original 428 is in the shed.
