Grey motor block

I have been searching through my horde of motors and bare blocks, looking for a late number for my cross flow head build, and came across a police numbered block (I think?) T64048P I assume TAS Police number. Is it a 1964 numbered block and sequence number 048 (which would be a good start) as it has been in my shed for about ten years and looks very good with very little corrosion present. I have a number of "J" motors and blocks which are the preference for good builds but just wondering about the TP block.
Any ideas or comments.

Weddo, as well as the engine number there may be other numbers or date clocks cast into the block, Ken Mclean or others on here will be able to tell you more about how to decode or read these to date the block
Or you may be able to compare the cast numbers with some of the J blocks you have laying around
Looking forward to build updates of this motor

Nice you have a cross flow head!
Is it an original or the remake? Any pics?

Hi GreyFC,
It is an original head
http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,18581.msg111744.html#msg111744
, started out as a tidy up but have since had the valve guides replaced, having new valves made then fitting new hardened valve seats.

You're correct about the T block numbering, given that it was stamped in 1964 I would assume that it is a J block casting. BUT it could be an old stock from a dealership so comparing casting dates with some of your other J blocks sounds like a good idea
