For Sale and Wanted / Cars Wanted / FC Wagon
|
on: August 30, 2003, 06:36:39 AM
|
Hello,
I'm after a 1958 FC Special Station Wagon (Station Sedan)
It must be in original condition, ideally unrestored with ownership history etc from new. A genuine low mileage example would be great.
It also must be Volcanic Grey lower & India Ivory upper, (no other colours thanks) preferably with a black and red interior.
I'm not after a project car (have enough of them already!)
I can pick up from eastern states.
Thanks
Edward

General / General Board / Re: Holden Crewman

Guys,
Being a bit harsh on the competition aren't we?
We bought four XL Falcon AU's two years ago with the bench seat, dedicated LPG and tray. They get driven by the site boys and have clocked up 60,000km or so each and run like the day they were new. Very well appointed for an entry level ute.
One year ago we bought a couple of SS utes. The first one had the motor rebuilt at 25,000km, and mine ticks and slaps away merrily at the moment, just need to find the time to take it down to Suttons for its engine rebuild.
Over the 1st year of ownership I had it back to the dealership eight times for minor repairs. Not as bad as my VS Maloo I had a couple of years ago, mind you, but don't start me on that lemon!
I think the best thing about the current situation of Ford vs Holden is that they are finally listening to the public about what they want, and throwing great new models at us.
With a baby due in November, the SS ute's days are numbered. While the Crewman & Adventura are tempting options, I might just wait to the Cross 8 hits the showrooms before opening the wallet.
Now that will be a ute worth having!
Regards
Ed

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Dip or blast?

Thanks for the advice.
Is the etch primer you used a 1 pack or 2 pack product, and will it prevent rust forming, or moisture penetration until I'm ready to prime and paint (ie while the body mods take place), or does it need to be taken back to bare metal again?

Technical Board / General Technical / Dip or blast?

The great strip down started today, and there are FC parts from one end of the back yard to the other.
Which brings me to the topic of removing paint.
I'm thinking of having the body bead blasted underneath, inside cabin, boot and engine bay, but hand stripping the roof and quarter panels to prevent distortion.
The bolt on panels will probably be dipped.
Does anyone have any suggestion / recommendations / experience they can pass on regarding a/ the best method for removing paint and body deadener b/ Experienced bead blasters / dippers in the Sydney area.

For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: CRS Dropped Spindles

Chuck, If you are still interested, I have a brand new set of SA-02 CRS drop spindles. I've decided to stay at the standard ride height for my project, so I won't be needing them. I purchased them on 3/6/02 at a cost of $475, and have the receipts and certificate from CRS. (you may require these for your engineer) Make me an offer, Regards Edward ( edward_singleton@mpagroup.com.au)

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Which column, FC rack & pinion?
|
on: August 19, 2003, 06:06:55 AM
|
Got the information from Rod.
Basically he makes a collapsable column out of your early Holden column, the floor plate and a early model Commodore column.
Anyone got a spare column, floor plate and early Commodore column they want to sell? I'll post on parts wanted.

Technical Board / Modification Help / FC V8 heater demister
|
on: August 19, 2003, 06:01:03 AM
|
What's the best way to hook up a heater demister for an FC?
Is there any sort of special connecter that adapts to the demister slots at the back of the dash?
I've got an old accessory heater floating around in the shed that has some 30mm convulted tube, flattened at the end with some wire "clips" fashioned to hold them into the dash slots. Is this as sophisticated as it gets?
Any advice or examples of what others have done would be appreciated.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Identifying SB Chev Capacity
|
on: August 16, 2003, 07:52:50 PM
|
Ace,
Thanks for that. I have to use a 305 or 307 for RTA compliance, and was just wondering how easily the motors are identified.
I need the HQ type sump for the CRS crossmember.
Heads are yet to be decided.
Do the Aust 307s have a 2.45" main journal diametre?

Technical Board / Modification Help / Identifying SB Chev Capacity
|
on: August 16, 2003, 08:45:46 AM

Without wanting to sound ignorant, how do you externally identify the capacity of a small block Chev motor?
Is it like a red motor, ie cast into the block, say "307", "350" etc, or is it through the engine number sequence or prefix?
Any pointers would be appreciated before I head out into the big wide world to purchase a motor for my V8 FC project.
Thanks

For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / FC N/S Front Guard
|
on: August 15, 2003, 07:09:53 AM
|
I'm after a good clean straight near side front guard, preferably without repairs, but professionally repaired is OK.
Has the reco panel business within the NSW Club got off the ground yet?
It sounded like a great idea.....and I'm a potential client. Just don't remember the name of the guy who was talking about it a couple of months ago??

Technical Board / Modification Help / Which column, FC rack & pinion?
|
on: August 15, 2003, 06:56:52 AM
|
I'm currently undertaking a V8 conversion into a FC sedan.
I have a CRS HR front end with front mounted rack.
For RTA requirements, I have to fit a collapsable column.
Can anyone suggest a suitable column that will enable me to meet the objectives of keeping an original look, ie dash ignition and FC wheel, column auto shift, and is also collapsable?
