For Sale and Wanted / Other Stuff Wanted / WTB Salisbury V8 gear sets 3.36 & 3.55
|
on: January 07, 2010, 07:54:44 AM
|
I am looking for excellent used or NOS Holden V8 Salisbury diff gear sets.
I am looking for the following ratios:
3.55 and 3.36.
I currently have a 3.08 set, but a spare would be good.
They must be genuine Holden sets, not reproductions.
I require them for an old race car, hence the different ratios.
Please send me a PM if you can assist.
Thanks in advance.
Ed

Cool bit of footage. The ol' VH looked to have similar pace to the VL. It looked like you were starting to get the upper hand in your little duel. Thanks for sharing that with us. Regards Alex
It was great fun being out there. The VL has about 100 more hp which you can see down the straight and out of turn 9 (the hairpin), On the other hand the VH has got 10"x16" rims with serious rubber, so can make up time around the back. As you may determine from the footage, I have some gearbox/diff ratio issues to sort out. It's a four speed and I was having to use 1st gear on turn 2 and 9. Finally, the VL was a bit tentative through turn 1 in this race. Here's why: Race 1, lap 1: http://www.youtube.com/user/FastEddieSR8#p/a/u/0/8aB9kyln1S4

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Door panel splash guard adhesive
|
on: December 14, 2009, 09:56:57 PM
|
Can anyone advise of a proprietary product that is used to adhere the plastic splash guards to the surrounds of the opening in the door inner panels?
I have a NOS set of the plastic panels and want to replicate as closely as possible the way the factory applied them.
I wish to avoid using a standard contact adhesive if possible.
Thanks,
Ed

The last NSW historic race meet for the year is on next weekend at Eastern Creek. Scanning the entrant list, amoung Group NB Touring Cars, over 1600cc, I came across an EH Holden, blue/black #183 entered by a fellow by the name of Colin. Anyone heard of him? I'll be taking out the Group C Commodore. Hopefully this time the oil will stay in the engine, the car on the track and the flare on the guard... I'm on strict instructions to bring it back in one piece - as it's on display at Homebush the following weekend Here is a link to the HSRCA site for full details. http://www.hsrca.org.au/default.asp?action=article&ID=111As Mike Raymond used to say, "BE THERRRRRE..."

Looks fantastic mate, great job and really well detailed. I can't wait to see it on the track. I reckon it will sound mean too. Nothing better than an angry six cylinder. (Actually there is, but a hot red is a close second ) You can keep the brakes though! Geez they look small! You're a braver man than I... Have you thought about attaching the harness to the bar between the B pillars rather than going to the parcel shelf? Less slack/stretch in an accident. The other thing you might want to consider is recovering the steering wheel in suede for better grip. Finally, perhaps consider mounting the extinguisher within reach, say below your knees in front of the seat or on the transmission hump. Hopefully we'll catch up at Eastern Creek.

Here's mine. It's the ex Grice Harrington Wigston STP Roadways VH from 82-83. It was nicknamed "Elvis" when it was racing as it had as many hits as Elvis. Here it is on the grid at Amaroo for the Silastic 300 in 1983. I bought it with a restored body and older mechanicals, and then decided to strip the mechanicals out completely and rebuild. Hope to see some of you at the Muscle Car Masters. Sounds like a good excuse for an official FE-FC run.

Zulu,
Group N is the historic class that covers old touring cars, which I believe is the same category referred to as Appendix J.
Col could probably confirm that.
I understand Group N is divided into 3 categories for different periods.
Group Na is up to 1957
Group Nb is up to 1964
Group Nc is up to 1972
These are approximate dates.
I have a Group C race car which fits into the 1973-84 touring car period. Group A follows from 1985 to 1992.
They have also recently introduced a category for historic sports sedans - Group U I think.
The next big event for historic touring cars is Muscle Car Masters, over the weekend of 5-6th September at Eastern Creek where I will debut my Group C Commodore.

Colin,
That sounds pretty exciting. I presume that it will run in Nb?
Is it a rebuilt former racer or are you about to log book it for the first time?
I am about to get involved in historics as well - the Suzuki has been a great training car but I've always been drawn to old touring cars.

Mick,
A couple of years ago there was a guy selling a heap of NOS parts. Included were complete A pillars.
If you got one I guess you could cut the bottom off. Seems a waste however I don't know too many people who require the complete A pillar!
I have no idea if he still has any, however his name is Mick and the number is 0419 252 533.

I had a fine time. The fans were out in force (both of them, Emily and Edward Jnr) the signwriters had done a great job, and it was all up to me. I was pretty happy with my qualifying time (whilst in car) as it was a couple of seconds faster than in practice. Back at the pits I found everyone was also happy with their qualifying times... I found myself 16th on the grid ...out of 17! Race 1 started well, and I charged through the pack int he first few laps, and had got up to P11 or 12. I came onto the main straight well, and nosed my way alongside the guy in front for a drag race down the straight. Approaching turn 1, most would have pulled back and tucked in for a inside run into turn 2. Not Fast Eddie! In a move that surprised even the most seasoned of professionals, I decided to go around the outside at turn 1. The rest is best described in pictures... Went in a little hot through turn 1 (the kink)...the tail started to wag...I had it, I lost it, I had it... Then I lost it... Headed for the sand trap, slowing down nicely... A little deeper... Until, a gentle stop... Some helpful locals came to my aid... And I gracefully exited the vehicle The big accident was in Race 2. Justin walked away though. I had to sit that one out when a coolant line blew off on the out lap. Very frustrating.

For anyone heading out to the event, look out for an all yellow Mini (probably #88) in the MINI Challenge races.
Fast Eddie shall actually be trying to live up to the name.
If you need a better excuse to turn up than to watch me flounder at the back of the pack, there is a big field of Group A & Group C cars on the ticket.
Apparently there is also some sort of V8 Supercar race on as well...
Regards
Fast Eddie
Faster than fast...
