Technical Board / General Technical / Re: FE Cowl Vent Seal Rubber
|
on: July 22, 2019, 03:18:28 PM
|
Ken , re the seal will it fit straight in under the vent cover ? Looks as though it will , a mate of mine said he renewed his and had to undo a couple of nuts under the dash to gain access, of which I cannot see any. He has an FC Wagon , maybe he took off the vent cover itself. But I can’t see that would be necessary. Just wondering. Cheers

Technical Board / General Technical / FE Cowl Vent Seal Rubber

My seal rubber is original; so looking a little tired and cracked here and there . I am thinking of replacing it And I see Rare Spares advertising them for sale . Before I do something silly , has anyone replaced there’s and what was the fit like ? Mine looks like it’s in two pieces , but it maybe just where the sharp front edge of the vent closes down on the seal . So. Hoping someone can help . Cheers

General / General Board / Rear window dealership sticker
|
on: April 14, 2019, 10:15:08 PM

I’m in Perth W.A. So my hopes aren’t high on this request . I have a mid 1957 built FE , and I’m looking for anyone that may have the knowledge of the Holden dearler Sydney Atkinson in Perth . I’m looking for the rear window sticker , that says : Another Holden from Sydney Atkinson , now before you jump the gun , I have the yellow & black version , plus a red lettering on white background one . But not the original same colour type that was on my car when I bought back in 1977 . Unfortunately when I had the rear window resealed they removed what was left of the sticker , I have old photos of the rear window but it’s very difficult to make it out . I’ve approached people who make these stickers , but unless I can produce a copy of the original . There not much they can do . I was hoping someone out there might be fanatical enough to collect this type of info . I can only try , please if you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers John BM .

Thanks Ken , for your reply , I did post a photo on one of grey motor enthusiast sites showing the position of counter weight , where it is frozen , it may be unable to move at all , not sure till I can get a look inside . If it’s feasable to get it working , & you have a return spring you mentioned I’ll get one off you . Cheers John M

If the butterfly valve was frozen in the closed position , would this have a detrimental problem in regard to heating problems ? Without actually taking off the exhaust to look up , I’ve been told don’t worry about it . I’m not convinced .though with the new modified head gasket installed it’s now running cool enough . Just wondering . Cheers

Technical Board / General Technical / Fitting a brake booster on a grey motor

Not being mechanically minded is it possible to utilise the vacuum wiper port on the manifold to operate both the vacuum wipers & the booster , or drill & tap a new outlet . I don’t really want to go down this path , but recent close calls with braking have made me have a think about it . Safety is foremost as one gets older , any input would be gratefully received. Cheers . 🐌🍺

For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: Nominations for improved cooling head gasket - 2nd round

Just to re confirm to members who haven’t as yet realised the benefits of the modified head gasket , I have had our FE since 1978 & it has always been a problem re overheating ,three trips over the nullabor to e/a nats did it for me . We had A problem with crank end float so I thought I’ll kill two birds with the one stone . & had the new gasket fitted when Harv organised the first run , what a difference , as I said prev I have two temp sensors , head & top rad tank , the two readings are now on avg 2 deg difference . Today in Perth wa , it was 32 deg ambient temp : the old girl sat on 72/ 73 c on a long run , never achieved before . More than happy , even the engine co .have asked for a few of the gaskets ,happy days 🍺🐌

Thanks people , & Seb , yeah well , the bloke seems to know his stuff , & rattled off much the same as you mentioned Seb , I’ll wing it & see how it goes . Will not use the car for 2/3 days & it looks like it’s raining Thursday . The car has a mind of its own I’m sure 🍺🐌
