101  Technical Board / General Technical / Front brakes locking up on: October 16, 2018, 07:58:48 PM
I’m not sure if I’ve posted this before , (old age ) but has anyone , with an FE  had reoccurring problems with the front brakes locking up when the car has NOT been used for several days and in particular , in cold , damp , weather conditions . I have had to go up & down my drive touching the brake pedal very gently for 5/ 10 mins before it rights itself . It’s been to so called experts several times to no availe. I’ve just picked it up from a repair place with 30 years exp  who assure me they have sorted it  . Was just interested to know if it was an inherent problem with the car , or an isolated thing with mine . Cheers🍺🐌

If I got a nos one I could have it duplicated .or is that something that’s common knowledge in the industry , I am old school . Cheers

109  General / General Board / Engine oil filter canisters correct type on: September 03, 2018, 09:32:05 PM
Picked up a oil filter canister for what I thought was for aFE/FC . But I now have found out it may be for the Fb/ ek series Holden . The one I have has the alloy top with AC cast on it . My question is in the years of the Holden there was . Fram . Ryco &. AC  which is applicable to my FE . From what I have seen on the box . The FE type was coloured orange with a black top . Also was there any difference in the canister . As in inlet . Outlet lines  . I suppose what I’m trying to say is if I installed the one I have . Would it look out of place . Cheers

111  General / General Board / Exhaust pipe end (FE sedan) on: August 25, 2018, 08:57:43 PM
I was after the correct look of the exhaust pipe tip as per original from the factory . Some time ago I was advised it was angled as opposed to a straight cut look . Thanks in advance

113  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Modified Head Gasket on: August 03, 2018, 06:49:03 PM
I now have the modified head gasket fitted , with results so far more than encouraging, the people who did the work say I don’t have to , or should say they don’t have to re tension the head  studs after say 1000 k as you would have done years ago , tappets yes they have advised to do them ,is there anyone knowledgeable out there who can verify this ? It’s called double torquing? Thanks in advance 🍺🐌
114  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: Nominations for improved cooling head gasket - 2nd round on: July 29, 2018, 07:33:15 PM
Did A run to York today , about one hour east of Perth to the FE a good run after the work done on it plus the modified head gasket . On way you have go up Greenmount hill , very steep for about 10 kms . Ambient temp 20deg c. By the time we got to the top engine temp 71c&. Radiator top tank temp70c . Amazing . Before it would have been around 80/ 90 at the engine . If I could figure out how to send a photo on the forum I would or will . Cheers .

117  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Modified Head Gasket on: July 26, 2018, 12:33:39 PM
Harv, if it helps I can confirm six head gaskets , if it goes ahead , word is spreading of it’s merits . Regards John BM .
118  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Modified Head Gasket on: July 25, 2018, 08:20:38 PM
Rob , that would be great if it can be arranged , my preference would be for the made up gasket . I m a born worrier in that if something happens down the track at least I’ll have a spare. And that would see me out , thanks 🐌🍺
119  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Modified Head Gasket on: July 25, 2018, 07:35:54 PM
Does anyone have a spare modified head gasket I could buy : it wasn’t till i unpacked the boot of the car that I realised my second spare one I ( the ply boards Harv had sent them over to in ) was not there .the engine rebuilders say they are trying to find it . I should not have taken the two of them over . If you get to read this Harv the manager of that place told me he would put in a sizeable order in to help make it viable for another run , if that’s something you wanted to do ?  He gets to do grey motors every now and then , cheers John BM
120  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Modified Head Gasket on: July 25, 2018, 12:26:35 AM
New crankshaft. The old one which was badly scored . I have kept it and will take some photos . They couldn’t offer any explanation , they completely rebuilt the engine only 40k ago . I think something they did wrong but obviously won’t admit it. But I’m more than happy with results of installing the new head gasket . The company that did the work have let other engine rebuild people know about the early results and none of them knew anything about the NASCO  gasket that was produced back in 1964
