Title: VENT LESS PANELVAN FROM FACTORY
Post by: giddyup on March 07, 2015, 04:33:51 PM
Hi,
Can anyone give me information on vent less fc panel vans from the production line.
Do they exist?
I have a van which I am told was a bakers van and they were built with no side vents.
It looks legit with the original diamond pattern sound proofing still in tack.
Any information much appreciated.
Mark.

Mark, they don't exist to my knowledge.
If they existed as an alternative to standard production then the upper van panel would have 2 part numbers - one with vents and one without vents.
There is only one in the parts book. 7411215 (LHS) & 7411216 (RH). The picture in the parts book is shown with vents, so the part numbers provided are for panels with vents.
So this leaves a special production vehicle which would have an S code on the ID plate such as those produced for the army or the post office etc.
No documentation exists for a bakers van as a special production vehicle.
Next there is no diamond pattern sound proofing on the inside of the upper van panel from factory.
Lastly the vents would be essential for a bakers van since when the bread is cooling it would be giving off a little steam which would need to be vented otherwise the bread would get condensation on it and encourage mould.

I tend to think - like Ken - that if any van needed a little ventilation, then a bread van would. Although I have my doubts that even a brand new FC van would have been all that air-tight :)

Having said that, there is a story in one of Don Loffler's books about an FJ bread van that's worth the read if you can find it. But from memory they were coach-built, not factory. Gary FE_UTE knows a bit more about them.

cheers

Thanks Ret,
You guys are a wealth of knowledge.
I was told they did not have vents due to dust and little bugs getting in to the bread but this is only a verbal.
Cheers Mark.

From my memory growing up in the country, bread was always covered with a linen cover or such like, to keep dust and bugs off. Our bread was delivered by the local grocer in a station wagon. :-\

Hey Mark did the guy who sold you the van tell you that?
as I had already told him before that his van
was not origional windowless and I think he
already knew that, remember he couldn't load
the photos? Funny about that, and as far as
"I have a mate who has a windowless van" he
is the mate. I think you owe him a phone call!!

Also from memory I'm sure the inside panel support struts have been fabricated,
check them with other vans, can send photos if need be
