Title: Grey head
Post by: N Field on April 13, 2002, 11:55:45 AM
Hello again.
I have a modified head with 202 valves fitted and have just burnt out 1 and 6 cars runs on LRP and has covered about 20000miles on these valves. Is it possible to have larger valves and hardend seats?
With the head off I will have it skimmed again is it possible to go 60000thou passed the thumb print?
Thanks for any help

Early heads could only be safely shaved about 60 thou and FB onwards about 80 thou from the original deck surface. You have to remember the heads are at least 40 years old now, so the deck won't be as thick cos of the rusting over the years. 60 thou past the thumb print is asking for trouble. If you want high compression, bore it out to a 147.5 or 149 or find a set of standard bore lumpy pistons, Weslites etc, but these are getting hard to find these days.
202 valves are big enough, any bigger will require too much work to the chambers to fit them in.

Hope this helps
Cheers
