The wheels are actually US Racing Mags 13X7, they were the original mags on my car, but with HR Front and Rear I had lots of clearance problems (or lack of clearance), so I sold them to Greeny (who used to own Dags car) as he had a standard front end and an LJ Torana Rear and didn't have any clearance problems. I fitted 14x7 Centreline Pro 2's to mine that were designed for a HK Holden and have no clearance probs now. Cheers Jockster

I had the same problem on my carby's, turned out to be the little copper ring seals on the jet inspection plugs at the bottom of the float chambers, they had been overtightened at some stage and cracked the copper ring, allowing fuel to seep out overnight Cheers Jock

The car looks really good Mark, the colour combination works really well, it should be magic when you get all of the chrome back on it. Maybe I should paint the bottom section of mine blue, every time I take it out for a run it rains and that dark burgundy shows up every little spot of dirty rain. I can't wait to see yours when its all finished and on the road. Cheers Jockster

The car did go to WA, where it was being stripped back for a rebuild, it needed new front pans and sills and l/h crossmember outrigger, other than that the body was pretty good, the interior was good and it had a very tough 179 HP engine in it. When it went to WA it had 15 x 7 Dragway mags on it, which have since been removed. The car will be coming up for sale on ebay soon as the current owner now has a V8 Van and no space to continue the project. Cheers Jock

The car is looking nice so far Mark, what colour scheme did you eventually settle on? Shame about the fuel gauge it looks like the letters were well done......mine has decided to show full all of the time now, I guess I will have to pull up the false boot floor and replace the sender. Your motor looks terrific in there, really sets off the engine bay. Cheers Jockster

Scotty Did you have the distributor out of the origional motor when you were straightening pushrods, if you did, the oil pump drive tang on the bottom of the dizzy may not have engaged the slot in the oil pump, so you would get no oil pump drive Cheers Jock

Dave All of the studs should sit at the same height, the amount of thread showing will depend upon valve overall length and lifter variations. If you have a lot of thread showing it is possible that either a lifter has collapsed or.....you didn't lubricate the camshaft lobes properly and bed the cam in at 2000 rpm for 10 minutes on initial start. If you didn't bed the cam in properly then you may have worn the bottom of a lifter off or worn the camshaft lobe off. I have seen a lobe go from new to totally worn off in less than five minutes when the cam bedding in process has not been done right. Cheers Jock

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Collapsible Steering Column
|
on: August 13, 2005, 10:12:14 AM

Some years ago when I built a very much modified FX, I used a HT Column and adapted the FX steering box to suit. It was simply a matter of cutting the shaft and outer tube where it comes out of the box (leaving the shaft about 35 mm longer than the outer tube) and machining a flat on it to take the HT flexible coupling. Where the outer tube was cut I simply found a seal of the correct dimensions and fitted it to the box. It passed rego inspection without hassles and worked fine. Cheers Jock
