Title: Wilsonia Gauge
Post by: Ed on June 05, 2002, 01:17:37 AM
Hi,
I have a Wilsonia Gauge, minus most of the copper pipe.

Are these gauges prone to leaking inside the cabin?

or does the flexibility of the copper pipe take up the engine vibrations adequately.

On another aside..

the fuel gauge and lettering of the Wilsonia has the top stroke of the E and F at a funny looking downward angle.  Is this normal?
Im thinking of using letraset or similar to remedy this..

thanks

Ed

Hi ed my Wilsonia gauge uses plastic tubing and it doesn't leak. ;)As for the lettering sounds like its showing its age as mine are both straight.I think Ken from the melb club was able to supply lettering.
Cheers,Graham :)

Ed,   MOST important when using the original copper lines on the Wilsonia guage (which you must do if you are chasing originality)
There is a small flexible hose (looks like the petrol line hose - but shorter) which screws onto the base of the copper pipe near the engine. This absorbs the flexing from the engine - if you don't use it, the copper pipe will crack & leak.
Easy altenative is to fit plastic pipe like Graham suggests.
Sorry I don't have replacement lettering for the Wilsonia guage.

Ken

Hi Ed
There is someone who has recently been running adds in Parts Peddler for reproduction glass lens for the Wilsonia gauges. Sorry, I threw out all my copies not long ago so I don't have their number. Cost was 30 bucks from memory. Maybe someone has a copy from a few months back. I think the add was in the "W" section.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Tony

Hi Ed.
I know the fella who is doing the repros Tony mentioned. His name is Phil. I got one for mine & it worked a treat. I reckon it would be VERY easy to do the same with that letraset stuff, but his was lined up just right.
Email me & I will give you his number. He does advertise, but it is not up to me to post his number on this forum.

This is just my 2c worth, but if the guy pays money to advertise in Parts Peddler, I would think he'd be grateful for a freebie here.  After all, you couldn't ask for better target marketing than this!

Ed, if you speak to the guy, ask him if he minds us publishing his number.  Then ask for a donation  ;D

Hi RET.
Parts Peddler is free, but I get the point.
Still, I wont put anyones phone number without checking with them first.
I do know he is aware of this site, but hasn't put an ad on, so maybe he has a reason.
Ed has emailed & he now has his number.
