You are a braver man than me JB. I don't think I could bear to pull my car apart again after all that work!. Hope you marked all the wiring after all the hours connecting it up Grin Grin. Keep up the good work, hope it all goes back together again ok. Cheers, Jack.

Gidday JB,
Managed to get my motor running last week, there's nothing like a running motor to get you motivated again!. I'm glad I've finally got past the wiring stage. I hope you get a kick out of seeing your motor running like I did. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Jack

For those of you who are going to Perth Nats and worried about mobile reception on the way over a satellite phone is the way to go. $1 per minute on a prepaid plan. They are not much larger than a moble and if you do a lot of travelling you may be eligible for a Govt subsidy. Check them out on this site - http://www.toxictech.com.au/
Cheers, Jack

Gidday Jack, yes you are right it is a HQ radiator someone found in a shed on the sth west coast of Vic. Grin Grin Had to swap the inlet and outlet over to the opposite sides. JB any time you want to drop in just give me a call. I thought I'd go for the 160 MPH speedo in just case I found myself going down a steep hill with a tail wind Wink Been busy on " household chores" today so haven't had a chance to do much on the car ( apart from giving it the obligatory startup ). Til next time, Jack

Hi Guys, been a while since the last update but there's not much to show when in the rewiring phase. Finally got most of the wiring done. Used some 6 pin plugs and sockets for the dash so that it can be unplugged and removed easily. Fitted an Autometer speedo which fitted perfectly in the original hole and it's in Mph so it doesn't look out of place. Put some fuel and water in it last nite and fired it up, it ran great after the initial puff of smoke from the oil I'd put down the cylinders to keep them lubricated. I've driven it up and down the driveway a few times and all seems to work ok, the power steering is as light as! , the brakes work well too. The final step of the wiring is to run the wires to the headlights and horn. I have fitted 2 fuse panels, one on the battery side and one on the ignition side and I have mounted them on spring loaded kitchen cupboard hinges so they swing down for fuse changing then swing back up under the dash. Works a treat!  Next on the list is to get the doors, bonnet, guards and boot soda blasted and primed and put back on the car. Then it will be all systems go for the painting stage. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! Til next time, Cheers, Jack.

Hi, I used the original brake pedal and support and just welded the larger pedal pad over the top of the original one. This should keep your engineer happy too. Cheers ,Jack

Good stuff JB, it's all the little mods that take the time but the end result makes it all worthwhile. Keep up the good work. Cheers Jack.

I used a VR booster on mine and it just cleared the bonnet hinge. I had to modify the spacer bracket to make the reservoir level but by using the original brake cylinder hole the pushrod for the VR booster lines up perfectly with the original brake pedal arm just necessitating a new hole being drilled thru the arm. Have a look at my build there are a couple of photos of the booster. http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,12539.0.html

Hi Jase, yes that's POR15 I used on the tank and floor, comes up a treat ,you just brush it on and it looks like it's been sprayed! Now I've got my shed all sorted I'll get some progress shots up, thanks, I needed that little bit of motivation. Grin Grin Cheers, Jack

Gidday Jase, I used a standard VS Commodore hand brake cable matched up to a Hyundai Excel hand brake mechanism, works well. Have a look at my build under My New Project. That,s a mighty fine birds nest of wiring under your ute, are you sure ther's not a couple of plovers under there ,I hear they are nesting this time of the year! Grin Grin Grin
Cheers , Jack

Just run a larger cable back to the boot. I used 25 sq mm welding cable for mine as it's plenty large enough and also very flexible. I have used the chassis as the negative path by welding nuts to the chassis and bolting the earth cables to them. Hope this helps, cheers, Jack
56  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Steering setup - collapsible rack and pinion on: March 28, 2011, 04:12:57 PM
Rod did a conversion for me using VL bottom collapsable part and FC top part. Done a good job and it also puts the steering wheel 100mm closer to the dash so it's not under your chin. Here's a pic, jack

Thanks guys, yes I am moving to a place with a bigger garage - I'm gaining an extra 3 metres of floor space. It will be nice to be able to walk around the car normally instead of crablike! Grin Grin. The only downside is setting all the shelving and equipment up again, but it could be a good chance for a cleanout. Jack

Hi guys, time for another update. Nearly all the mechanical work has been done, radiator fitted ( thanks Jack ), most of the wiring has been done, just a few loose ends to tie up , ( like JB I'm giving the wiring part a rest!). Have just trailered the car to the exhaust place to get the extractors and exhaust sorted. Moving house next week so it will be much easier to move the shed stuff without the car in it! Won't have much time to do any work on it for the next couple of weeks so it was a good chance to get the exhaust done. Cheers, Jack.

Back on it's wheels (not the wheels I'm using just some old wheels off the donor car)

VT floor shift fitted (mongrel of a job, had to cut a fair bit of the tunnel away!)

Computer fitted and wiring shortened.

Battery fitted in boot using original battery tray.

Radiator and power steering reservoir fitted.

Keep at it JB. I'm finding that every time I think the wiring is finished I discover something else that needs to be wired up Huh  I THINK I only have the fuel pump and sender to go but I guess time will tell. Cheers, Jack
